i saw a movie about a month ago on syfy called "sharktopus" with eric roberts. was this a sequel?

there is a sequel to sharktopus, but AFAIK its not related to this sharknado film.

IMDB lists the budget at $1 Million. I heard an interview with the makers and I think they said $750K. CGI is getting cheaper.
