If you can't be funny without using that word then you simply aren't funny...you're just a guy spewing words to elicit a response. Chris Rock by contrast doesn't need to drop those words to be funny, he's funny regardless, and when he does go there it's still funny. Not because of the words he uses, but in spite of them.

Sutekh made a joke in the FSR a while back and while I knew that on one hand he was trolling, on the other hand he did two things right: he actually said something intrinsically humorous, and he was oblique and indirect enough that it wasn't just him spamming words. And I didn't infract him, I just thought "well played" to myself and moved on.

What I don't think people understand is that the Mods were really hands off in this regard for a long time. Back when Keg went on a racist-trolling free-for-all in the Politics thread (only a few months after the forum went up IIRC) I came right out to the other Mods that I felt that we should just drop the hammer and be done with it before it got out of hand. Only one person agreed with me and the rest of the Mods were of the opinion that I was overreacting - so I backed off. So what we've had now for over a year is that people have been given greater latitude than they probably should have and now when we have to step in and tell people to STFU, some of the fucking retards want to double down on this shit and dare the Mods to do something about it. No one gave a shit about things like "chimpout", except when the same bad actors felt the need to parade around the board using it left and right just to see who they could piss the fuck off with it.

Anyone who has spent some time with me in certain IRC chans (not #Fires) probably knows that I can be and often am as offensive as anyone. But those are smaller channels where I feel like I know my audience and I'm unlikely to offend anyone - and if I did, I'd probably stop. But I don't ever feel the need to come to these forums and spew the same shit here. Expecting other people here to control themselves isn't an insane concept.

I'll tell everyone right now that if people would STFU and stop pushing the envelope on this stuff that the Mods as a whole would be more than happy to let the occasional comment/joke/meme go. But if people are going to undertake some sort of crusade to piss the Mods off by continuing to see how far they can push them, then they're going to have a bad time.
