Sinners (2025)

American sign language was developed at a time schools in the South were segregated. Apparently there are a lot of local dialects of American Sign Language because there are not that many schools and not a lot of interactions between people that learned and taught in different schools, add segregation in the mix and you have a group of Black American Sign Languages in the South. I think there is a good deal of mutual intelligibility between these dialects and families, but enough differences for them to be considered different things. That being clarified, It makes sense when you have a movie set in a black community in the South to have BASL as an option.

I demand a movie be made of the white vampire that was running from Indians. An origin story.

Basically, take out all the hypocrisy and the budget they probably spent on this pile of shit would be just enough to make a good vampire movie based off the original vampire. Queue up that WW2 shit theyre talking about and throw in a healthy dose of toxic masculinity and you'll see old white dudes come alive.

Jesus Christ this movie was fucking terrible.

How the fuck did this get rated so highly? I thought we were over praising bullshit just because it was done by black people.

If you want well executed vampire shit, just go watch Black Mass on Netflix. It is 100x more engaging than this garbage.

Some good clips that have came out of it that are being used out of context. But the film itself is largely a black persons racist fever dream on its best day and will quickly be forgotten. (think someone else already said that, and it was spot on.)

Parts of it are very good.. parts... are not.

There is of course the constant casual racism. All minorities love each other and get along, except whitey. Casual hate, slurs, etc against whitey. Casual black segregation, supremacy, "we wuz kings", roots" black identarian praise.
the nonsensical "black people music magic" scene is a perfect example.

Black voodoo works against vampires. while God does not. the vampire even recites the lords pray.. mocks the pastor, then leaves to play the blues.

The only counter to this perhaps is the fact the pastor was right? The juke joint WAS A den of sinners. adultery, booze, violence, cheating, greed, etc. its even the name of the movie.

how the hell do the vampires even work? that part was VERY unclear.
Mary turns instantly it seems. no convincing? They act insane. "we will kill you all!" Stack acting crazy and lying when locked in. if as later we are supposed to believe they like being vampires and want to turn the rest so they can live forever.. then why aren't they saying that? was that a lie? the crying and running away when Angie dies implies it wasn't.
or Bob iirc? the chinese ladys husband. why is he acting crazy when turned?
yet, the singing along with Rennick implies mind control. as they all sing along to HIS songs.
they say, shared memories. but is that just rennick to and from his minions? or all vampires? mary turned stack, do they share memories now too? what about the vampire that turned Rennick?

the kkk wet dream at the end was really stupid. "we got to get these uppity boys!"


Overall I was not as triggered as I expected to be.
