I put a case on my phone because of the fucking glass screen. I swear you just look at that bitch the wrong way and it cracks on you. If I am gonna pay half a grand on a piece of electronics that I carry with me everywhere, I literally can not take a shit without it, then why not spend $20 or so to protect it? Long gone are the days when you could get a small flip phone (RIP Motorola Razr. You were the shit) so what is another inch or so on the outside?

Couple years ago I took my newly purchased galaxy S2 with me into the ocean because I forgot it was in my pocket. I guess a case wouldn't have helped that though.

I put a case on my iphone 5, but only because the edges are uncomfortable when holding it without a case. I really don't have a fear of breaking it because I'm not retarded. Don't use a screen protector because it makes the screen look like shit, worse than if it had scratches.

I never resell my phone anyways, usually goes to a relative

I think it also depends on your line of work and how active you are. My line of work I have yet to see someone without a case not break their phone within a few weeks. Also, screw trying to work out / any outdoor activity without a case. Or add children to the mix, You are just asking for trouble. I guess it comes down to lifestyles but I know my bulky otterbox has saved my phone plenty!

What line of work is that? I manage to work on machinery, build fences, work with large animals, etc. outdoors all day every day and not break my phone.

Very interesting news, wonder how the tiering and full rules will work. Just maxxed our Framily out, heh.

Thankfully article says they're grandfathered so can't be worse, might be better though.

So I am a bit annoyed with my Nexus 5 at the moment. I finally bought a mount for my car so I can easily access my phone while driving. I am constantly checking Google Maps for traffic (I commute a ways) and listen to Google Music or podcasts, so I am constantly fiddling with it. So in order to make it as easy as possible, I wanted the screen to stay on at all times when charging. For whatever reason, that option is no longer available. I mean, I see the option in Developer Options, but it is grayed out so I can't actually enable it. Someone suggested I download Tasker and do it that way. Problem is when you try to enable it in Tasker it gives an error message which says that function was disabled with Android v4.2+.

So what gives here? Am I a total moron and there is something very obvious I am missing? Is there any other option for me to do this? For now I just changed the screen timeout to 10 minutes, and it turns out I probably touch my screen more than that while driving anyway. Still curious though if this is something that can be accomplished and I am simply missing it, or if it was actually disabled and if so why.

Yeah, 10 minutes is the longest option I have on my Note 3 running Android 4.4.2. Maybe try rooting and then trying Tasker again?

That developer option is usable on 4.4.3 with my M8. So it's still usable for the OS, might be a software conflict or N5 specifically disabled function.

Well I am on 4.4.4 and it isn't working. So yeah not sure if it is an N5 thing or what. The only other thing I thought may be blocking it is I had to encrypt my phone. In order to use work email it required encryption and a password on the lock screen. I was one of those super lazy people that just had swipe to open until now. Not sure why that would be it, but it is the only other thing I can think of.

This is likely related to the security policy you have in place. They have it set so that the screen is forced to lock at some point. I don't have an AD/Exchange deployment I can test on, but I can verify it is working with Android 4.4.4 on the OPO running the AOSP ROM.
