This whole S3 replacement thing may happen much sooner than expected. Last night the cat decided to knock over my bedside water, woke up this morning and the nightstand is actually scorched where the phone was sitting.

Sucks because: 1) I was holding off until the new shit came out; 2) I'm three days away from being upgrade eligible; 3) It is all provided through work which generally means no in store help b/c of the corporate contract; 4) No house phone so may actually have to go in to the office (or just conveniently miss my Friday conference calls)

edit: eh, they needed to know by 1pm EST for Saturday delivery which didn't give me time to go by the Verizon store and play. Just told them to send me the Note 3. Sucks blowing my upgrade so close to the refreshes.

I've never owned a Samsung Galaxy phone, so I figure I would ask here. Friends S4 was totally fine, and then all of a sudden battery starts dyeing very quickly. First guess was a new app. Nope, and she checks her active app list through the task manager all the time, and closes everything down on there multiple times a day.

Her location, and habits have not changed, so it couldn't be a 3G to 4G signal bouncing, or roaming, or GPS.

Obviously the battery could just be going dead after 1.5 years, but that seems awful soon. Any other ideas?

Is she on Sprint? They have machines in their stores that are service centers that can test the battery to see if they are damaged/dying.

Honestly, it seems like most phone batteries start to shit the bed around the 2 year mark for whatever reason. Damn near everyone I know that ever complains that their phone battery is getting significantly worse are usually somewhere in the 1.5-2.5 year window of owning their phone. Gotta love disposable electronics!

A recent update to 4.3 on some Samsung devices causes unusually high battery drain. There was a big stink about it in December. Check that.

Yeah, since my cell phone replacement thing didn't work out (ended up borrowing an old Droid RAZR from coworker) I still have my upgrade in tact and thinking about picking it up. Kind of want to wait and see how the Sony one reviews 1st and think I'll skip out on the S5 completely.

There's probably an app somewhere that's preventing the CPU from going in to sleep mode. Happens every now and again with my Nexus 4 and 10. Google needs to get their shit together on this.

My warranty replacement G2 seems to have a non-functioning GPS. Won't lock on at all with any app. It looks like a lot of other people have had similar problems. Fucking "like new guaranteed" phones. I swear they just get other people's broken phones and send them back out.

Looks like I'll be going for the HTC One M8 next week or so with the data available. Seems like the best choice for longevity right now, right? (Battery life plus time til it will feel like it needs an upgrade plus durability)

Anyone having issues with an Android phone where your Bluetooth keeps turning off, and the only way to get it working again is to reboot? My Nexus 4 has been doing that shit for a few weeks now.

It would appear I'm not alone:[Bug Watch] Many Nexus Devices Still Suffer From Assorted Bluetooth Issues

I want nothing to do with iOS, but seriously, I'm getting sick of all the little fucking bugs everywhere with Android. This shit is unacceptable. Every Android release fucks something else up.

Thanks guys for the tips. I'll check this stuff out. Tarrant, she's on Verizon, so can't do that check, but she's still going to head into the Verizon store and check it out. Our corporate discount gives us 25% off accessories from Verizon, so it might be pretty cheap. Or just go to Amazon and order from there.

I broke my Moto X a while back while climbing and have been without an Android device for a while. I've been trying to use an iphone 5S but holy shit are there so many useful features missing from iOS now that I came to rely on with Android.

I jailbroke the 5S, and just to get SOME of the functionality that I'm accustomed to, I ended up with over 20 tweaks installed, and half of them are only partially functional with the x64 processor in the 5S.

Thinking I might order a Nexus 5 to replace my Moto X. For the price, it is such a great device still.

I clearly don't use my phone for much, as biteSMS is the only tweak I installed to give me back the quick reply feature Handcent gave me on Android.

What else have you tweaked?

I bet you'll still find cheaper prices online, even considering the 25% discount. A 25% discount on accessories/parts in a brick & mortar store means it's then only about 50% overpriced.

What else have you tweaked?
Activator (gesture/conditional launching)
Aria (Music app tweak)
Badger for quick viewing of notifications
CCLoader/CCMeters to add information to the Control Center
Homescreen Designer so I'm not stuck with the fill from top grid icons
CustomLS to remove some of the clutter from the lockscreen
MesaVibrate to receive a vibrate when the fingerprint scanner doesn't work (I climb a lot so my fingers never seem to read correctly)
ProWidgets for quick access to sending messages/notes/etc
NowNow to replace that godawful Siri with Google Now
NoAnnoyance (I don't give a fuck about if you want me to turn on WiFi when I open Google Maps)
Springtomize 3 (remove status bar icons and other small graphic tweaks)
Gregorian - iOS 7.1 Calendar for 7.0.6

Those are just the ones with Settings Menu settings.

iCleaner
iTouchSecure
MobileTerminal
NoPageDots
NoStoreButton
PandoraSkips
OpenSSH

Lol, whoa... guess I never thought any of that to be all that annoying that I needed to change it. Will look into them though.

HTC One M8 is currently the best phone you can buy imho. It's also absolutely gorgeous. As far as longevity? Its predecessor, the M7, is still one of the best phones you can buy.
