Its a smart play. Christmas movies for actors are usually big bank. Even if they are remotely good, they are typically picked up by Broadcast and played each year. With the right contract negotiations, they could see residual checks for the rest of their lives.

I always wondered why every shitty musician did a Christmas song or album until I read an article about all of this. Pretty crazy how much money you can make off a mediocre to awful Christmas movie or song, let alone a good one.

It's silly holiday fun, but the Octavia Spencer/Will Ferrel shit was fucking lulz, especially considering the era he comes from.
