Way too many females in relevant positions for 60's Russia, but whatever, that's just inescapable these days. The show could be a good spinoff if they do it right.

I really wanted to love For All Mankind and I did for the first few seasons. I guess you can always overlook the woke stuff and just try to enjoy the show but it became too difficult somewhere around the Mars season. I don't expect this will be any different. We'll get white male oppressors and minority female "unsung heroes" and victims, and we'll like it, god damn it.

Sorry Ron Moore, you were a good writer on DS9 and BSG but you went way too hard in the lesbian paint ruining For All Mankind. You had actual likable female characters that got killed, turfed, or otherwise ghosted out in favor of all the carpet munchers. Plus having mexicunt Mary Sue Immigrant try to carry the show was one of the worst choices the show ever made. I am not sitting through a show where the point is going to be more lesbians trying to make Communism Wasn't So Bad be the focal point.

I don't remember who any of these people are or what is even going on. I guess you have to rewatch season one of For All Mankind to be able to make any sense of this.

It really doesn't help that all the characters are so generic looking it's hard to tell them apart.

Gonna finish off For all Mankind but it and The Boys turned me off from seeing any more content or spinoffs from these folks.

Who is 'these folks' here ? I don't think there's any kind of overlap between the boys and star city ?

This is better than the last couple seasons of For All Mankind, but just find I have it on as noise while im doing other stuff as I'm not super into the dystopian Russia stuff and more interested in where they're going to take the space program.

Season finale next week, been a decent first season unless Russian dystopia isn't your thing. Better than the non-space filler in the last couple seasons of For All Mankind that's for damn sure.

S1 is complete. Here's an interview w/ the creators (Gemini summary follows):

This episode of The Watch podcast, hosted by Andy Greenwald, is broken into two main segments: a breakdown of the 2026 Emmy nominations and an interview with the co-creators of Apple TV+'s Star City.

2026 Emmy Nominations Breakdown

Andy deep-dives into the latest Emmy landscape, analyzing the major storylines, surprises, and snubs:

Interview with Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert

The co-creators and showrunners of Star City (and its sister show For All Mankind) join the studio to discuss their freshman season finale:
  • Origin & "Spy-Fi" Concept: While doing historical research on the Soviet space program for For All Mankind, the duo uncovered wild, untold history that couldn't fit into the American-centric narrative of that show 20:14 Opens in a new window . This inspired them to create a distinct cold-war espionage thriller rather than a mirror sci-fi drama 22:21 Opens in a new window .
  • Authentic Production in Lithuania: Influenced heavily by the miniseries Chernobyl, they chose to film in Lithuania 27:16 Opens in a new window . They utilized a local crew who grew up in the era to ensure everything from the wallpaper to cultural nuances felt deeply authentic 27:24 Opens in a new window .
  • The British Accent Choice: They initially considered filming entirely in Russian or using Russian accents, but after consulting Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin, they chose to let actors use their natural British/European regional dialects to focus entirely on performance over accent work 28:13 Opens in a new window .
  • The Creative Process: Running two massive shows concurrently meant swapping places in Lithuania every two weeks 38:13 Opens in a new window . They reveal that they write intuitively and don't always know the exact ending of a season until they are deep in production 44:27 Opens in a new window .
  • Future Seasons: The creators noted they are excited about the prospect of not doing the massive time jumps that define For All Mankind, preferring to stay grounded in the immediate timeline with these characters 48:10 Opens in a new window .
