downloaded and watched the finale based on all the positive reviews here. last time i watched this shit was some of season 1, then checked out because it was so terrible.

jesus, what a shitpile. same recycled story lines "muh borg gonna destroy the earth!". How many times have I seen this plotline now? 6? 8? I've lost count. Same shitty recycled tired villains. Same tiresome, predictable outcomes. Just nonstop memberberries being slopped on a plate like tasteless gruel till youre nauseous.

I miss the seriousness and the dignity of the original TNG series . All this shit is just JJ Abrams Star Trek movies stuffed into a TNG sausage casing. Its all pew pew pew, zero emotional heft and no real sense of danger. I'm surprised that Data didnt whip out an MP3 player and blasted "Sabotage" as he yelled "Trust me!" and flew into the Borg Cube.

Kill this franchise already. It has been Terry Schiavo'd now for 20 years

I see you disregarded my warning if you didn't like the TNG movies, then Season 3 is not for you.

arent you guys tired of literally the same exact scene being recycled like 6 times over the last 30 years?

A star trek captain (whether its picard or janeway) somehow sneaks onto a borg ship and infiltrates into the inner sanctum (borg security is total shit apparently) where they meet the borg queen (its always a queen). the borg queen being another cheap plot device because you need an individual to trade dialogue with. then the captain lobs the usual "you'll never defeat us" shit at the BQ. BQ in turn lobs the same smug "oh but i already have" with typical villain trope lines, while the starfleet crew is doing some shit in background: releasing nanoviruses, blowing up beacons, uploading furry porn to central mainframe, whatever the latest gimmick is. BQ and captain go back and forth for a while then captain miraculously escapes, mission accomplished.

Did you really just complain that there isn't a Borg King? That's literally been her ultimate motive since she was introduced (and retconned as to why Picard became Loctus). There is always a Borg Queen because its a hivemind like an beehive or ant colony, its fine.

Noone will really know how far the writers originally envisioned the Borg to be around for. They were a neat but one dimensional bad guy, but eventually you cant just have Picard talking to a viewscreen of a cube, so giving the Borg a leader made sense for the Borg to not become boring. She never escapes by the way...cannon is that she would be rebuilt after death, however Future Janeway's virus really fucked the Borg so she couldn't anymore hence why she was so fucked up looking as she was cannibalizing the last of her uninfected drones.

I said to me this season was a 10/10 while the parts themselves were not. Yes there was shit to nitpick, yes some of it was eyeroll worthy or whatever, but from the start of this show I wanted a fun TNG reunion with stakes so Picard and co could come and save the day. I wanted characters to be aged and more mature versions of themselves but have experienced growth over the time since Nemesis, and yea i wanted serious scenes and even humorous ones like the old show did. I dont need "Chain of Command" or "Measure of a Man" serious tone repeated for 8-10 episodes that would be exhausting to watch. Give me some action and humor as well, and to me they did. Picard and Crusher getting together and having a kid made sense. Geordi refurbishing the old Enterprise made sense, and his kids being in their position also made sense, since if you are going to have a dad in Starfleet to teach you shit, cant do much better then him. I LOVED Worf this season, and the way they handled Data and Lore worked for me. Bret Spiner is as much as a problem as Patrick Stewart when it comes to those characters so him doing his weird Data thing is whatever, I get why Data is how he is now and I don't blame the writers for it as he wouldn't play the character unless its his own way.

And yea I did fanboy Q coming back at the end because as far as we know the Q that dies in season 2 could have been from 50,000 years in the future and was thinking back to his old friend Picard who died alone.

So yea this got long winded and you said you didn't watch the whole season, but I will leave you with a clip that is probably my favorite scene of the season. It kinda shows it all in terms of how much better the quality of the show was this season. RIP Shaw you were the best character created post DS9 outside of The Doctor from Voyager. I hope Star Trek Legacy happens, and that Paramount gets their head out of their ass and hires Terry Matalas to oversee all of their Star Trek shit.

It was nice to see atleast someone was actually pissed at what Picard did cause I know realistically there would be a million Shaw's with those feelings.

I think Season 3 salvaged Picard (the character) from the gutter where Season 1 and 2 had left him.

I also think the writing on Season 3 did not hold up as the season went on - look at that finale from an objective perspective, and the vast majority of the writing wasn't materially different from any of NuTrek. I know many of you are 'I'm all for Star Trek: Legacy!', but subtract the memberberries, and this season was merely good.

(I continue to be annoyed that they turned Seven (the character) into a lesbian because Jeri Ryan (the human) was associated with a Republican and needs to do her penance, and find it even more ridiculous that they would let Raffi be in the same command structure as her.)

That said, Ed Speleers is a goddamn find, though it is getting suspicious that after this and the Star Wars sequels (Adam Driver), the only ones getting out with their dignity are the white guys. It's like hiring for diversity first results in bad outcomes, or something.

He's right.

Like this is fine for a two part season finale of an otherwise episodic story, especially if it's the first time it's been done, which is what TNG did.

But they already recycled it for First Contact and then recycled it for Voyager and now are recycling it for the finale of a serialised story which I feel has a higher bar to reach to make it worth your while. Didn't they even have Borg in the S2 finale - this is a rehash of a rehash even for this show.

I only read the plot summary since I'm boycotting Star Wars AND Star Trek for woke crimes, but it seems like they literally just delivered memberberries after shitting in your mouth for two seasons.

I'm also tired of this puppetmaster trope where defeating the bad guy undoes all the bad things they did, so they can artifically raise the stakes beyond what they would normally, which obviously telegraphs that it will all be undone somehow at the end. It's counter productive, the second I read that Geordies daughters and all the under 25s were assimilated I knew exactly what would happen and posted:

Reverse the polarity of the borg nanites so that the borg are unassimilated.

I will commend this show on the special effects, they look nuts these days.

Also liked the grotesque HR Giger version of the Borg queen instead of the Voyager sex kitten version. This kind of stuff should be Lovecraftian nightmare fuel from the depths of outer space that literally breaks your mind.

The finale sort of acted as a Borg swan song and it makes sense they want to do that with Picard since the Borg were first introduced in TNG. Trek could dredge them up again and we could have different Borg factions develop, but story wise it makes sense to move past the galactic power level unstoppable Borg since 30 years of Trek has shown them to be quite stoppable. Who and Daleks have a similar issue at times

Lets be honest season 3 from a story standpoint is all kinds of fucked up. I think many of us are giving it a pass in a way due to how bad the first 2 seasons of Picard were and how they at least sent Picard and the original crew out to pasture on a decent enough note that we are riding the high still. When you sit back and get over that tho man was there a lot of stupid shit going on this season.

It's probably better to view this as a cross between an apology and your A Very Brady Wedding / Return to Mayberry / Escape from Gilligan's Island nostalgia reunion show than as anything else.

Someone posted on Twitter that the post credit should have been Wesley popping in to meet his brother and... yeah that makes a lot of sense.

Also Jeri Ryan is 55... good lord. She looks better at 55 than most of the 40 year olds I know.

Back in 1998 at Gen Con. Jeri Ryan and Robert Picardo were there publicizing Star Trek Voyager. I had seen her on TV of coarse, but back then we all had crappy reception even on cable compared to today's 4k HD TV etc. I was working for the Gen Con staff and had to work security for their area. Now at the time she was 30 and a total smoke show. I was 26 doing security... Nothing ever happened, sorry no story to share. However, I do not remember anything else from those three days besides standing behind her making sure none of the fans/nerds groped her. Good times.

She has kept herself up beyond incredible. Hell even the close up at the end with Tuvok you could see only the slightest of wrinkles. In all honesty I think her face looks better today than it did 25 years ago. The make-up team on the show have a lot to do with that, but still... smoking hot.

I wish Seven would've went back to the bun hairstyle as Starfleet officer. Isn't there typically rules about long hair in the military? Remembering Sam in SG1.
