original 1977 theatrical cut will be re-released in theaters next year and presumably home blurays/streaming soon after. They are working on ESB/ROTJ as well apparently for their anniversaries.

I wonder how this sits with the devout Lucasites who believe his word is law and the "specialized" editions are the one true gospel...

It seems obvious to me, tbh

1. Decanonize Episode 7+
2. Learn lessons from the Andor show on coherent writing.
3. Figure out why boba fett, ahsoka, the last season of mando was lame and correct it. Probably by getting rid of a lot of writers.
4. Continue the Star Wars story with Ahsoka and Mando, but introduce an additional media that is more Game of Thrones in space and shows the inevitability of conflict in the Galaxy due to fundamental issues with humans and the Force rather than the ghost of Ian McDiarmid

This is all probably impossible for them to do, but it'd be the only way to get me to respond with "I care" to Gavin's question. I'd love to see a new star wars universe that isn't shackled by the sequel movies or the dumpy Thrawn elon musk

I don't expect sweeping employment changes, but outting KK will certainly change what gets greenlit. Obi-wan Kenobi and Acolyte should not have happened and then there's the movies floating in the ether (from wikipedia)

yeah filoni peaked with cartoons his live action has been weak to bad, nothing big is gonna change. he is great at taking big stories from guys like lucas and filling in all the gaps, "why do some jedis have purple lightsabers? here's 2 movies filling in those details" but he cannot come up with creative, new, interesting stories outside existing timelines on his own.

at least the money guy isn't KK anymore, maybe the new jew will figure out that women don't give a single fuck about star wars and no 9 year old girl is gonna watch anything to do with jedis and fighting and space politics. or maybe he will continue to greenlight shit nobody gives a fuck about, who knows. either way neither are gonna deliver anything good so it doesn't really matter.

Iger has final say on all Lucas Film authorized budgets. He took control after TLJ as the "buck-stopper" as he calls it.

He exerts more control over the movies than the streaming series. I've only seen him intervene to kill movie projects. Seems he didn't care what Disney+ series got shit out.

Regardless, it's up to Iger what gets made and doesn't get made. And as he said himself in Forbes-- he has a lot of say in how they make it too.

Far from out of the woods here.

I can hardly say KK being minimized is a bad thing, but 'The future of Star Wars is Ahsoka!' doesn't thrill me. Neg me if you like, but I'd rather have more Starfighters than more Ahsokas.

The only TBA movie that might move forward is the Mangold movie. Both Disney and Lucas Film owe him for stepping on Spielberg's toes after he walked off the Indiana Jones movie over script disputes.

Mangold ignored Spielberg, came in and made writing contributions and then shot the movie. He did them a solid and if he wants a Star Wars movie, he's the guy that is getting one.

All the stuff Filoni has done in animation is some of the best Star Wars out there, besides the OT.

Filoni was part of The Mandalorian too, which means he gets partial credit for how good it was as well as partial blame for how bad it got.

Personally I want them to move away from the current timeline. To be honest, the High Republic era they wanted to use was a good idea which was ultimately horribly implemented.

I'd personally would prefer moving forward where it's a totally blank canvas. Essentially a new setting, new heroes, new villains etc...

Did they ever do any high republic shows? I know there are some books, and so far I like them (I think I'm only about 2 or 3 in).

Personally, I'd be fine with them using the time travel introduced in rebels to retcon the sequels. But I don't think Ford or Hamil would come back, so it's probably best to flesh out the Old Republic and leave the future stuff alone (anything beyond mando and ahsoka) for a while until you can get away with recasting the main characters. I'd rather see a huge jump back than a huge jump forward in time. I'd like to see the technology get more primitive. There were stories where the jedi had to carry battery belts for their corded lightsabers. I don't know how far forward you think they should go, but if they go 100 or 1000 years into the future, I would expect crazy power jumps. The thing Star Wars had over Star Tek is that it's gritty. They have bathrooms. Their blasters run out of power. Their electronics go on the fritz and have to be pounded on.
