If this was 15 or 20 years ago they could have rolled right into the OG Thrawn books as a sequel trilogy and brought back the whole original cast. Unless they do the unthinkable and decanonize 7-9 and recast the OT characters with middle aged actors and go from there but I don't have faith in them to pull that off.

Using Zahn's stuff is admitting they couldn't make anything better trilogy wise. George hated the EU and while Filoni plucked a few things from it, that mentality is going to rub off after working under him for so long. I don't see Filoni as a doer who is willing to make big decisions.

Filoni is bringing in a lot of stuff from the EU though. I mean fuck, he didn't even really change the story of how boba fett survived the sarlacc. I can't remember all of it, but I'm constantly seeing EU stuff show back up and I love it.

Still waiting on Mara Jade though.

Put the MCU guys in charge and it'll happen overnight. They are full speed ahead on pandering to get box office back. Lucas Film needs similar treatment.

Not sure how Iger can continue to authorize tangent projects like Starfighter and not address the elephant in the room (that the sequel trilogy was atrocious and needs to be redone in some way). Iger had ghost-directed Episode 9 and changed the script without consulting anyone at Lucas Film, telling JJ to completely remove Matt Smith's character. It's possible after Episode 9 flopped he really did believe "Star Wars fatigue" is the reason. Because he was so personally invested, and sure he could make it successful if he just exerted control over it, and that didn't happen.

There is sour grapes there and that could be part of the reason why Lucas Film will not get the current Marvel treatment. Whether he believes there is Star Wars fatigue or not-- he played his hand and lost.

No one wants to admit that this IP needs to be shelved for 20 years, let everyone at Disney who touched it be dead or old enough to be irrelevant, and then sold to a company that will remake the original trilogy. It is the only way to save it.

How do you save this trainwreck? I am the KEY FUCKING DEMO that they should be trying to attract; I bought thousands of dollars of Star Wars toys, books, video games when I was in my teens through thirties. I forgave the prequels because they were still putting out books and games that I enjoyed. Now? I have kids that are in the prime demo for their toys and to start on the movies and they have not gotten ONE SINGLE dollar out of me because of how badly they fucked this up for fans. Four boy kids that are oblivious to Star Wars because they have annihilated the reasons that male fans had to enjoy and share this with their kids. So tell me, how do they save it?

I'm sorry you must have mistakenly taken that as a challenge to double down on the retardation. Let me make break this down for you. You want the franchise to completely stop for 20 years. You are not anyone's demo. No company in the universe wants to target a person who wants the company to go dormant for 20 years. You have not spent a single dollar since (I'm assuming) disney took over? Not only are you not their demo, they don't care that you exist. Do you understand now?

Anyway, I've said many times how to save the franchise and it sounds like they just did it. Get rid of Kennedy and put Filoni and/or Favreau in charge. F&F may not be batting 1.000, but kennedy is batting fucking 0.000. I've also said recently that I would accept time travel fuckery to retcon the sequels. I hate that kind of fuckery but it technically is in canon and those movies were so fucking bad that it's worth it. Another option is to avoid the current era for a while and focus on high republic or some time in the distant future. The problem with the distant future is you'd kind of have to write some more of the current era story unless you were going thousands of years into the future.

I worked at Taco Bell when they had the Feel The Force marketing blitz for the special edition movies back in highschool! Every few hours the disco Star Wars theme would play on the music system.

I like Star Wars but it's not my favorite, but I do remember that time period everybody was pretty excited to be able to go and see them in the theater again. I hadn't seen them since I was a little kid at the theater, and you'd get a big group of friends and go watch the crappier versions, but it was still fun.

I don't think I've seen any of the new movies in the theater, I'm the only thing that I made an effort to watch recently was Andor, and it was phenomenal. I really just don't care if they make anything new, and I agree they ought to just shelve it and let it marinate for a bit, maybe come up with some sort of cohesive plan instead of just throwing spaghetti at the wall.

You sperged out about a former Star Wars fan saying they've completely lost him to the point that he hasn't even shown his formerly favorite IP to his children.

95% of all current adult Star Wars fans were introduced to it by their parents when they were children which is the entire fucking reason it was a billion dollar franchise in the 2000s. Tanking it's reputation with current fans so badly that they don't introduce it to their children the same way it was introduced to them is exactly how you kill it for good, and you're here arguing that KK is the issue when Iger still meddles with every movie and the lead creative they replaced her with is most famous for......a Star Wars cartoon that catered mostly to adults.
