They weren't greenlit for a full length season, so they had to make do with what they got. The actor who played Alex getting #metoo'd probably played a role

Season 5 was stretched and hardly a full length season either.

The asteroid A plot (main plot line) was finished by Episode 5. The remaining 5 Episodes had nothing besides B plot line.

B plot is usually reserved for 2-3 episodes of a season. Amazon made it the entire 5 remaining episodes of Season 5. Book readers didn't care of course, but TV watchers lost interest.

Might as well have just made Season 5 into 6 episodes also.

Not even getting into Syfy delivering 13 episodes of quality in 2 full seasons, with Amazon coming in at 10 then 6 episodes. "They saved Expanse" is dubious.

Eh, the amazon seasons were watchable, didn't set the IP on fire, and had a reasonable ending. It's a low bar, but it could have been a lot worse. I think it's mostly expectations that taking the same writers, actors and showrunners and giving them a bigger budget should have resulted in better than the first seasons, but clearly didn't.

Clearly the solution is to take the Expanse team and send them on SG-1 missions in an entirely new show.

Trying to think of other success stories

I think Subway helped save the show 'Chuck' - they were putting full blown Subway ads in the show. I remember that is how I found out Subway sells breakfast sandwiches lol

Amazon saving The Expanse after a big fan push also comes to mind after Syfy canceled it.

Although those were shows only recently canceled - this isn't so much a show but an IP that has been off the air for over a decade at this point.
Roswell I think also. Veronica Mars had 3 seasons and a movie campaign.

i started watching stargate origins which was a series of webshorts made in 2018 i think, its hilariously bad. it goes back to 1939 and guess who the baddies are... THATS RIGHT, NAZIS

just watched episode 1 but its so bad its hilarious. im 99% sure any new stargate made would be hot garbage. got 11 seasons of SG1, like 7 seasons of atlantis, and 2 seasons of SGU. More than enough to rewatch until Hollywood is purged of retards (never) or they bring back cocaine fueled writers

This is kinda where I'm at on this at this point in time.

Same way people are "rediscovering" old games on actual physical media because the current game industry is such hot garbage.
Many are rediscovering old shows that hold up. SG-1 , IMHO, holds up well. Embrace and love it for what it is, a SciFi show that straddles a good line of how seriously it takes itself, has enjoyable characters, and does a good decade long run. (Although I'll admit things faded a bit with the Ori arc IMHO).

Maybe at some point in a decade the wyrm will have turned enough to get an honest new show. By that point the OG cast from SG-1 will all be old enough to just get cameos as "Ah, there used to be someone familiar with first gen naquada reactors.... you should go find her" or "There used to be a guy who deciphered this language..." and such. Maybe frame it as with the neutralization of the Ori and the system lords the decision was made to just shudder the program because the world finally realized it wasn't ready for that tier of fights, a tiny fragment kept doing a little exploration with a firm "interact with no civilizations" rule, until something goes wrong and it's time to "assemble a team" to handle up on shit.

It's just a shame that by the time that happens Claudia Black will be old enough that her in a tight leather dress will count as GILF bait.

TIL that apparently the ficticious character Dr Daniel Jackson has the same fictitious birth day and month as I do.

Also apparently a lot of hardcore fans are still super salty over the amazon rug pull.....

Netflix apparently offered to buy the Stargate IP including the contracts of everyone involved in this project and were told no by Amazon. Kinda amusing how when Fetter was at Netflix it was the other way around.

Celebrities need to come out and bash Fetter, not just tweet #SaveStargate. Pressure needs to be put on the people who hired him and being nice with a giant like Amazon isn’t going to cut it.

At this point I honestly don't think anything will come of any attempts. As you said, the people in the positions of power to make/control these decisions aren't people anybody who cares about the IP can affect leverage on.

I do find it interesting/entertaining that this whole drama has turned a ton of Stargate fans, who traditionally are pretty laid back, just devoted to the thing they love into.... Well.. honestly.. it's turning them into Firefly fans. Just much angrier Firefly fans.... I have noticed a few of the cast members and other online are joining in the cause a little on Twitter, but also it's notable that several specifically aren't. Making me think there's also some career preservation strategies in play for some folks.

Same thing happened with The Expanse. Amazon refused to give The Expanse back to Alcon before the full term of their license, and exercised all options to prevent it from going to another streaming service.

Alcon tried to do a new deal and Amazon said no, became uncooperative, and has been holding the license hostage for 6 years now. Amazon signed a new deal with Alcon to keep season 1-3 on Prime just to stall the license out longer.

Amazon won't let SG go to Netflix because it's one of their marquee acquisitions from the MGM buyout.

amazon is currently at work on a TV show for the authors newest book series, Captive Wars (2 books out so far, more alien/war stuff). The showrunner (Shankar - TNG, for all mankind) is running it and the authors are EP's. So clearly the behind the scenes people are still happy working with amazon, for whatever thats worth.

of course they could let it develop to a pilot and then can it, its hard to judge how important streaming is to amazon. only Apple TV+ seems to be all in on scifi
