Stateless

Streamable on Netflix, this is a 6 episode series that follows the happenings at an Australian detention center. The bulk of detainees are from the middle east and are attempting to illegally enter Australia and claim asylum. This is a "pretty good" show. Nothing that you would ever want to rewatch, but it's fine enough for what it's trying to show. The show heavily leans towards being sympathetic for the asylum seekers, but it also does a well enough job of showing that the workers at the detention center aren't all bad people, and they have internal conflicts for their jobs. For example, it would be wonderful to just let in every immigrant who truly is seeking asylum but of course we know many are lying and are horrible terrorists.

One thing that really frustrates me is that the aliens enter the country illegally, and then want to claim to have all the rights of the citizens (a lawyer, etc), and complain about the conditions of the camp they are being kept in until they are either interviewed and granted asylum or deported. ... If you don't want to be treated like a criminal, don't commit a crime!

Worth a watch, nothing amazing, but it's not shit.
