Can't speak to the Wing Commander batch specifically but you're almost always better off buying games like these from GOG because they go through their preservation program to make sure they actually run on modern hardware. That's mostly a crap shoot on Steam.

What does it look like in a DOSbox in 4k? That's my main issue, all the games that were pixel mush back then are now blurry pixel mush.

VII (and VI) should be played with Exult. It's going to look like a game from the early 90's no matter what but it's still a big improvement over DOSBox.

yeah but doesn't GOG bundle all their games with DOSBox? Every one I have was. Now I have to mod an old ass game to play it with subpar graphics?
