Wife and I restarted this a month or so ago. Season 1 was by far the best, 2 was decent, 3 was a little over the top with all the Russia/hidden massive tunnel stuff and everyone seemed to be leaning too hard into their character. The neverending story scene was just too long and goofy, way too much teenage love drama in it too. 4 was nice after 3 as it felt refocused again and dialed back the teenage drama/resolved it quicker. Eddies solo was the highlight for me.
Looking forward to the resolution, annoyed that they’re splitting it the way they are but whatever. Not a perfect series, has a lot of annoying stuff in it but overall it’s still entertaining.

This show got enough respect along the way that I will at some point do a full rewatch so I can remember what happened along the way before starting this season. But it will not be soon. This amount of time between seasons is absolute bullshit.

Anybody watch it? Robin lifts Will up with a little speech, and he gets powers. Other than that, just feels disjointed. Hated the scene where Murray is helping Nancy by carry the potato bags, and Murray asked Jonathan if he slept with her. Just felt kind'a shoe-horned in.

Everyone is so old. Watching a bunch of obvious adults trying to play teens is ridiculous. This show started almost TEN years ago.

They should have gone into why the rest of the world does not appear to have any interest in this town. There would be news crews all around that town in one form or another. Why is it cordoned off? Why does it seem like nobody can leave? I would think that if under full military control the civilians would have been forced out. Why is it difficult to get supplies? They passed a lot of time but no explanation was given revolving around the current circumstanced beyond it being under some sort of military control.
Maybe this gets explained in the next few episodes.
Also, the kids are no longer kids. They are full blown adults and it shows. They waited to long for this.
Also since Will has powers, I am assuming powers can be given to anybody. That could get interesting I suppose.

The best part of season 5 is they FINALLY answer that nagging question: how the fuck did Ted bag Cara Buono? Well, his karmic balance finally righted itself in the form of demogorgon collateral.
Otherwise, this season has failed to hold my attention. I'm noticing errors instead of being entertained:
People ask what was the good about the earlier seasons and I'm having trouble coming up with a good answer. I guess the writing and 80's nostalgia was handled better back then? I usually just tell them the intro reminds me of (good)Mass Effect.

- Linda Hamilton is comically villainous. 3 years and you couldn't write a better character?
- MORE CHILD ACTORS
- Just how many bullets can a demogorgon sponge? Will is shown breaking their bones forcefully, so that M2 mounted on the humvee should have been able to replicate that externally. Shame on whoever did the sound effects for the M2. Seems like 100% tracer rounds would have been something given their weakness to fire.
- How is Eleven still walking around Akers' memory of the military base AFTER Akers leaves in said memory?
- Every scene with Robin is annoying and I don't know if its the actress(who should be better given her dad) or the writing. Or both.
- Hopper not wanting to lose Eleven and sacrificing himself seems like retread of previous story beats.
- How is every main character not under some form of permanent surveillance?
