For some reason the posts about this one remind me of that Erenshor game from last month, whose interest seems to have completely died. This just another flash in the pan to hold you all over for a couple weeks?

This game is nothing like Erenshor. Aren’t most games like that? Not every game is a play for three months or five years game.

Erenshor is early access, is this one too?

I played Erenshor almost 100% through and I don't play a lot of games/have a lot of time. I just have the last zone and last dungeon and I'll have done all the content, it doesn't take that long to "beat" Erenshor.

Got this wishlisted too.

Tainted Grail is fully released, not in EA.

It's a Larian style release though. The content that was part of the EA is pretty thoroughly tested and polished, especially the tutorial area and first region. The last act that was just added as part of the full release is a buggy mess that will probably take months for them to get up to par.

Is this any good? checking cause of title.
It's good if you're looking for something similar to Bethesda games, but I'd suggest watching the Mortismal Gaming 100% review that Caliane linked above. And don't expect any sort of modding even remotely on the level of Bethesda stuff. The Nexus page is basically just a bunch of shitty Reshades, a couple cheats, and one animation replacer.

I never modded a bethesda game, so that's not a negative in my book.

Someone said it's a mix of Gothic 2 and Morrowind; which sounds good and got me to play.

I got 5 - 10 hours in and I can certainly see the Euro jank like Gothic 2, but I'm not sure if it has the choice/consequence or factions of Morrowind/Gothic. It's doesn't have the stupid auto-scaling of the later Elder Scroll games and has a somewhat similar skill based system, so maybe that's it.

This game may be the worst I've ever had for motion sickness though, so dunno if I will be playing more of it (I even maxed the FOV at the start).

I believe there is a headbob setting you can adjust or just turn off completely. IDK why but only a select few games with headbob fuck me up while other titles don't bother me whatsoever.

Yeah I killed head Bob immediately.

Some of these side quests are fucking hilarious though.

About 25 hours in and my only real complaint about the game is the combat which is inconsistent in it's difficulty, but can be easily cheesed due to shitty pathing and geography.

I'm likely "doing it wrong" with my class build, but I'm not going to spend the extra time theory crafting this shit. Just going figure it out as I go. It's not like I'm in competition with anyone, so who cares as long as I'm enjoying the ride.

The exploration aspect of the game is what has a hold on my attention at the moment. It's a neat little world they've created with some interesting encounters from an aesthetics standpoint.

Your character power ramps significantly differently depending on your build. Counter to OG Skyrim, magic builds seem to start strong and just keeps going up, summons in particular help immensely in multiple ways with some of the early game difficulty curve. From my experience, mana regen is really your only slow down with a magic build at first, but gear to correct that is plentiful early, mana potions, etc. If I ever play the hardest difficulty/survival mode, it will be as a summoner build. Stealth archer started off feeling fairly weak, took a good amount of investment, and gear to get to how powerful it feels in most Elder Scrolls games, but once you get there, 1-2 tapping boss encounters from stealth becomes the norm. Archery is just chunky and slow, doesn't hold up in melee (as it should be probably) so you really want to keep parity in some kind of melee. The ramp up on melee is probably the best overall curve. Once you get some good gear and points in the right places, it sings regardless of 1h/2h/dw preference. Merchants seem to keep anything you've ever sold to them available for buyback, so you can always go pick back up gear you've sold off if you decide to respec with the fairly generous number of respec potions that are scattered about the game. I think I had 2 or 3 by the time I got out of the prologue area.

The armor skill tree under Practicality is dual purpose survival and melee dmg boost, makes it a good option for tank or melee dps all around.

There is a missable Red Death skill tree that you get from a quest in the 2nd area that has a death save and prevents you from taking more than 25% of your health in one shot which is pretty clutch for some of the heavy hitters like the Spectral Knight.

With how your stash works by being accessible when interacting with any crafting station it's like your personal encumbrance isn't that big of a deal. It's a whatever either way, but something I found kind of odd.

Buddies keep saying I need to check out Oblivion Remastered, but I think I might see this one through first.

Oblivion Remaster was a great trip down memory lane, kind of nice getting to relive a game and it looks just as good as your rose tinted glasses remember it. But it lacked that new "thing", felt hollow because there was no discovery or sense of something new, and Tainted Grail definitely hit that spot in a big way. I'm just now headed into the 3rd major area, but at this juncture, if I'm being unbiased and principled I'd give Tainted Grail a 7-7.5 out of 10, but on a biased personal level it hit me more like a 9 out of 10. The dark nature of the story and the games sometimes significant and sometimes subtle take on an "Elder Scrolls" style game just hit perfect for me. Oblivion Remaster was like a really good appetizer, satisfying but left me wanting more, and Tainted Grail was an excellent main course to follow, probably the perfect one for me personally. Part of me wants to say that Elder Scrolls needs more darker themes and to grow up and take some notes from Tainted Grail, but ES does have some dark parts, it just doesn't feel that way in as significant a way I guess.

does tainted grail have titty armor? that's the true mark of a good daggerfall-like game.
