Yeah no shit. Micro city management is for the birds. What a pain in the ass trying to keep ungrateful citizens happy all day. I'm going to build you a fucking temple, keep you from living in squalor with sewers, give you plenty of food from farms, and you're still going to hate me. No thanks.
No matter how hard I tried with Surviving Mars, my colonists kept killing themselves. Not hating me, but committing suicide. I just uninstalled it because that's insane gameplay mechanic.

I don't like micro managing in RTS games. Which is what most of them have become. I used to play them a lot.
Reminds me of why I stopped playing StarCraft II. I have over 2300 games on my profile from 2015-2019 and I just stopped with the last update they did in 2019 because it simply became too tedious and micro managey. A job simulator.

Tempest rising is way way less micro intensive than starcraft or warcraft 3. It's a bit more micro than C&C 1 /RA1...or RA2. Obviously has more than supreme commander. but way way way less than RA3/CC3/starcraft 2/wc3. Thinking on it. it doesn't have 'hero units' like a lot of modern RTS. i believe the heroes just 'change stance' mostly.

and once you get past the "use this unit a particular way to do the objectives" missions, you can basically compose your units of nothing but things that have zero micro.

So it's a pretty good 'old school' rts.

I just miss company of heroes. British expansion and 2 / 3 were abortions

I played COH2 for about 8 hours earlier this year. My only experience with the brand. I just found telling my units where to go was always such a hassle for that one and Sudden Strike 4. I'd tell the group to move to X, and they'd scatter to X, Y, and Z. Meanwhile with SC or WC, you could tell a squad to go to X and theyd go to X.

One of my friends always has a moment in nearly every match where he's suddenly yelling in Discord 'no, fire, no, why are you going there, stop!' and it's fucking hilarious.

COHO3 wasn't in good shape when it launched, but we have a lot of fun with it now 3-4 player comp stomping hard and sometimes expert. I miss our Supreme Commander games, and wish we had a newer version of them. That race to artillery / shields, the ultimate units. Was a lot of fun.

BAR doesn't click for some reason (been a while, need to give it another go), and I'm not really sure why, and Planetary Annihilation didn't either. Tempest Rising is too expensive for them to yolo into and it's maps are too small (2v2 the max still) and comes across like another game that is going to prioritize micro / competitive play over the bigger engagements and player options. Ancestor's Legacy and Iron Harvest were the last couple of games that fell victim to the same thing for our group. We got a little bit of fun out of Ashes of the Singularity.

Comp stomps are gay, and 3v3 type games are messy slop fests. 1v1 balance and extreme technical detail on various things and scouting/ prediction was just such perfection in Vanilla 1
