The Beast in Me

I tried to give the 1st episode a shot but everything is so over the top comically absurd. Matthew Rhys ‘s introduction and character is so heavy handed evil it isn’t even interesting. Claire Danes is playing another bipolar crazy woman but this time she’s a lesbian and somehow makes her character from Homeland seem stable.

Maybe something happens and these characters go somewhere, who knows. The first episode doesn’t really make me care at all.

Had all the above typed up and site saved it as a draft, so just continuing here.

Almost made it through the whole show. It really isn’t great. Contrived maybe is the right word? Nothing is organic or natural in any of these relations. Everything is written to happen just so that it can exist for the show. Dane’s character is so dumb and her dead son an ex-wife only exist so they can be exploited. Rhys is so comically obviously evil. They try to give him some complexity with his relationship with his dad (Jonathon Banks playing the same type of character he’s been playing, yet again), but it is nothing new and has been done much better.

I’ll finish off the last episode at some point. Maybe tonight.

He really is just an evil caricature, maybe I don't mean that in such a bad way. I mean, he acts the hell out of it. Claire Danes spends the whole show with that same exasperated wine drunk confused look on her face.
