even tho i'm probably not gonna play it much i bought a vita because I already got a ps4 and 3 years of ps+ ($30 black friday woo) so its a shame not to get a vita just to hoover up the free games, gotta be strong and not pay for any actual vita games though. probably get a used ps3 at some point next year too. the ps+ lineup for ps4 though is pretty bad, and probably won't be decent for a year or two. definitely rapes the fuck out of xbl.

I don't really understand the argument that you are only "renting" games on ps+ and if the service dies or you unsub the games are gone. yeah, but 99% of games (movies, tv, books) you only play through once, its really a tiny tiny tiny handful of games that I want to replay a year or five later.

Just going to toss this here in hopes to get more help on this. So every year I help out a random family from my Mom's church who are a bit less fortunate. This year, I got a 8 year old boy who I found out really wanted a DS, so today I went out and got him a 3DSXL instead since for all could tell it can play normal DS games and didnt seem like that much more $$$ to get him the newest version of the handheld. Now I want to get him a couple of games and having a hard time picking out a couple for him. What do people think are must haves, for an 8 year boy?

Zelda, pokemon, and latest Mario.
Yeah, definitely these. Also consider Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.

Fire Emblem and the SMT games might be a bit too hardcore RPGs for him, but you should consider Chrono Trigger and Radiant Historia. We all LOVED CT when we were that young and I'm sure they would too.

thats pretty awesome bro, if you have a kmart near you they are running a deal that will let you get a few games cheap. Get a shop your way account (register on kmart/sears, same company) then buy donkey kong returns 3ds.
http://www.kmart.com/nintendo-donkey...&blockType=G15

Its $35 but after checkout you will get $15 in points and a $10 coupon emailed to you. Now turn around and use that coupon and points to buy Animal Crossing A new Leaf for 3ds, it'll end up costing $25 but you get another $10 in points. Finally turn around and buy Lego City Undercover, same dealio ends up costing $10. So three games for $35.

Then Super Mario 3D Land (better imo than Super Mario Bros 2 which is newer), Zelda A Link Between Worlds (probably the best 3DS game), and Pokemon X or Y (same game just different pets, dont buy both).

Mario and Luigi Dream Team is $30 on amazon ($10 off) but oos and may not arrive by dec 25.

your awesomeness inspires me gonna go pick up a few more 3ds XLs to give out, they are $150 at target this week by the way

Awesome doing that for him. Was tempted to do similar when I saw PS4s being planned to be available again with Best Buy announcements, etc here but I just couldn't swallow a $400 donation right now. Sure $150 is less, but you know you're making a kids day doing it - making me regret wimping out on doing the PS4 to find some lucky needy kid for.

hmmm .... thanks spronk. Been wondering what to get for the 10 year old girl also. Might have to double up on the 3DSXL for her and just give them both a plathora of games to work on. Just not sure she is in to games .... wasn't given a clue as to what she would want.

Could go for some girly stuff like Petz with a shared pile of general games.

Pokemon seems to be a good unisex game too.

Or could do 1 game each with a gift card to round out the others. Definitely want at least the one game for Xmas day use though.

I've got some calls out trying to find out what she is in to but so far I haven't heard anything. While I know who the family is they don't know who I am and I don't go to church so its been tough to find out about the girl. Got lucky with the boy when I stopped by my moms place during her book group and got some info. Don't want to let her feel short handed if that makes sense?

girls love animal crossing, its like sim people or whatever that game is called. no fighting, you just do weird non combat MMO kinda shit (mow lawns, pick apples?) and buy thousands of items to decorate your house, character, etc. definitely buy the girl another 3ds xl, as the dad of two girls and a boy they instantly want something if a sibling gets it and they don't, even if you give them something better. 3ds has a lot of games girls will like, like animal crossing, lego friends, some funky cat and dog game, etc. and they can swap games and play together when not fighting.

if you have a target near you, they are selling kyocera hydro android 4.0 prepaid phones for $10. don't activate it, just put it on wifi and you can give it as stocking stuffer mp3 player/camera/email/browser/webcam/minigame/etc. for $10 hard to beat, especially if you have a lot of free wifi hotspots around the neighborhood. giving a kid a small free mobile web browser is pretty powerful. you can install the free app cell radio shutoff and it will turn off the 3g antenna, making the battery last forever on a charge (like 20+ hours mp3 player).

You should get Pokemon X for one and Pokemon Y for the other.

Scribblenauts for the DS is both fun and a very good learning tool for writing/spelling/vocabulary.

Btw, the Bravely Default Demo is no ordinary demo and you will want to play it if you are buying the game:http://www.gameinformer.com/games/br...full-game.aspx

Nintendo 3DS RPG Bravely Default is getting a demo on January 2. It's not your average trial though, asit includes a story not included in the main game.Additionally, data will transfer over to the full version when it is released on February 7.

Additionally, we learned more about sleep points. For every consecutive eight hours your 3DS is asleep, you'll earn one sleep point up to a maximum of three. These allow for mid-battle healing, revival, and powerful attacks. This is where the optional microtransactions come in. Players can purchase sleep point potions from the eShop, which restore all three points.

The demo is coming in just a couple of weeks, andplayers will be able to import some things to the full version. This includes item packs, up to 20 street passes, and any friends registered within the demo.
