Can I get in on this Harfle Purchase PlanT ? That sounds like the best way to get this new console.
His condition was that if I lose the bet I have to never disagree with him again. That's tantamount to torture for me, to not be able to disagree with someone.

I doubt he'll actually hold up his side of the bet if it does come out at $400, slanty-eyed asians have no honor!

Needs out of the box mouse/keyboard support or I'm not buying one until 3rd party accessories come out that add said support.
Oh, you so funny Fadaar. You know that's not happening. The only keyboard support these will have is probably the same as this last generation, being able to plug one in and type on it for certain menus.

And XIM, which works quite well by most accounts I've read. If you're into that console-fps nonsense, anyway.

A $300 or $299.99 PS4 would sell like crazy, but even $399.99 sounds pretty good compared to what Sony has done in the past.

These price perception things are a bit odd anyway. Remember the PS Vita? When they announced the specs people were like "omg this is going to cost an arm and a leg", then they announced the $250 price tag for the Wi-Fi version and people were all "awesome crazy cheap!" and then, come release time, the same people were saying "meh... it's a bit pricey now that the Wii price dropped and compared to the DS and yadda yadda".

Vita price complaints at launch had more to do with people realizing the final cost after they bought a memory stick to go with it.

You pay $99 up front and then pay a monthly fee for 2 years and you get a Xbox and 2 years of live. They already have this plan going with the X360 and it's clearly been a test for using it on the X720.

It's available at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Gamestop, etc currently. They will definitely continue this with the next console.

Lease to own, rent to own, whatever you want to call it. Same over-paying crap that you do at a place like Aaron's.

Sadly i could see this happening, however it would just be an optional commitment, much like cell phones, internet, and tv service. If you cant pay the upfront fee you can lease to own. Maybe companies use this structure so its not 100% out of the question. I personally think its dumb and would rather pay upfront than any type of lease deal.

I don't see what's so sad about offering people different purchase options. If you wanna drop $399 today and not worry about it, go for it. If you feel like being cheap today and paying more in the long run (news flash: people love leasing shit), then you have that option too. You shouldn't blame Microsoft for taking advantage of people's stupidity. They already tested this $99 subscription shit with the 360 and it was successful enough to expand the program so at this point I think it'd be foolish not to expect it in the next generation too.

Agreed.

If I remember correctly, the lease plan only ends up being around $50-60 more expensive over 2 years, anyway. It's not a terribly huge amount of money.

Not worried yet, since Kotaku is the exact opposite of Credible! 19 hours, 30 minutes to go.

I'm not sure if we'll see a price revealed yet though, I think that'll be saved for E3.

wonder if nextbox has plans to use midori's kernel later on or just windows8/blue for now... supposedly they are coming out with a kernel update for blue. maybe then.. clr-lite/native .net down the roads and c++ for now?

I'd be surprised if they don't hit the $399/$499 mark. Much less of a sticker shock for only $30 difference.
