I am in the same boat with my DS, but i play the hell out of my PS4.

The HDR shit is coming to every ps4 model, that is kinda cool/unexpected, but I couldn't really tell how drastic of a difference it was watching a stream.

Not having a 4K blu ray player was a major fuck up. Zero chance I ever buy one now, that was going to be the reason to actually get one.

I'd imagine as a developer thats pretty bad ass you have the choice to make a game @ 4k/60fps

If scorpio will have a type 1070 gpu, I dont see how they will manage 4k at 60fps. Hell even the 1080 struggles with that if you go beyond basic grafix.

Remember that if you sit more than 7 feet away from a 55 inches screen, 4k is indistinguishable from 1080p. To get the full benefit of 4k you need to be 3 feet away from your 55 inches screen...

On a side note, I have an increasingly difficult time seeing the value of increased graphic power for video games. At this point it feels like the limit is much more the cost of asset generation and art quality in modeling, texture and animation than actual computational power.

I guess you can argue it's important for VR, but I have never heard less about VR than since the Occulus and Vive came out!

Oh it is a stopgap thing most definitely, just looking at the specs it screams rush-job. That tech guy babling on about how they strated to plan for this "Pro" thing directly after the release of the PS4 is BS:ing

Anyone with more then 6 months to sign hardware contracts to secure delivery of components would have chosen better components and looked at the "Scorpio" to see what they needed to match. Ok, Scorpio comes out next year and they managed to get a "jump" on M$ by releasing the Pro for this holliday season... but will this really sell that much? They limit multiplayer games to 30 fps, if I understand it correctly, to not give people with the Pro any advantages in COD/BF/Whatever so unless you have a 4k TV (with HDR...how many fucking times can you say HDR in a presentation? Jesus.) and hate multiplayer , this new PS4 will not do much for you.

And as you wrote, what does this say about their thinking about a new console? Is this a stopgap until they announce the PS5 next autumn? Will they skip numbers and just do a "Pro Ultimate" for their next project? The main strenght of the console market has been predictability about what hardware your customerbase have and how long the lifecycle is each generation. Doing semi-upgrades every 3 years and demand backwards compability for games released in the future (because its the PS4! regardless of Pro/Pro UItimate/no-Pro...) is just retarded.

Not that Scorpio is much better, if M$ sticks with the "no Scorpio exclusives!" and "play anywhere, your PC for example where the game will run at 120fps instead of upscaled 4k at 60fps". Considering the power they claim the Scorpio will have, they will also have to take a loss on each unit sold unless they want to fuck up pricing again.

It's only going to sell because it's basically the same price as the PS4 originally. In my opinion, but clearly Sony being a seller of TVs also would not share it, they should have upped the specs and kept it at 1080p and aimed for better frame rates. Now, with the barely talked about "1080p" mode, they may have done just that, and here is to hoping that is the case. I also think had they aimed for 4k60fps, they would have priced themselves out of contention for nearly everyone. I know they are pushing 4k TVs, but really even as the tech gets more widespread in its adoption, most mainstream TV providers are still on 1080i... so not so sure needing 4k right now this very second is all that wise of a target, when your games aren't even up to par in the framerate department on 1080p.

The scorpio will release in a year. I expect it to be stronger. At that point the PS4 PRO 2 will be at the horizon. The console will finally be able to enter the same loop as phone.

All I want is 4k 60 FPS bloodborne and demon's souls.

With those I expect 4k 30-45 FPS and full 1080p 60 FPS. I don't believe console dev hype. Remember what they promised for Xbox one and we got 40% of that.

Unless you absolutely have to play Bloodborne or Uncharted right now don't buy a ps4 at all, cause there ain't much else to do with it currently. Wait for the Pro 2 or whatever they make next so you can play Bloodborne at 60fps.
