I have no clue really how ps+ and all that shit work (dont have a ps3) but here is a post someone made on reddit listing all the games you got for free on PS+ for one year

It is bizarre how badly Microsoft misjudged things. Sony made some of these exact same mistakes when launching the PS3 (high price point, try to push it as a "media center", etc) and have spent the last 8 years fighting to get back to gaming. It is going to be interesting to see if Microsoft desperately tries to roll back on its DRM and used game policies, and/or if they push out a reduced price, xbl-for-2-years SKU ahead of schedule. Also wondering if the few devs that are doing xbone exclusives (I can only think of the Roman game?) are furiously wondering how to get out of that.

I don't think Sony has announced yet whether or not they will follow suit with Microsoft on the DRM always on game licensing shit. My 360 and PS3 have both been gathering dust so I doubt I will buy a PS4 at release regardless unless they have a bunch of badass exclusives on top of Dark Souls 2.

Edit: Nevermind, just saw the new PS4 thread with new info.

My take on the Xbone issues
Used Games
I don't hate MS and but what they are doing pisses me off. I don't tend to buy a lot of console games because they always sale at full price but sometimes I will go in and buy 3-4 used games for super cheap. It occurs to me with this licensing nightmare that the used game market is going to be in major flux and that could seriously affect services like Gamefly and their pricing. I can just see publishers tying in features to whether or not you "buy" the game or "rent" it and yes we already see things like that in games today but Xbone is the first one to make it the default practice.

Kinect
It's a gimmick. I never use it. Wife never uses it. I don't care if it exists but it is not a major feature of my gaming world. (Good for skyping though but all I really need is a camera) I guess if this is a serious feature and not a gimmick for you then it's worth it.

Price
$599
$399

This is going to hurt xbox. If they release first they can get quite a bit of a sales lead but if they don't.....

Xbox TV Integration
This seems cool and very interesting to me but it needs to have every feature my Uverse box would provide. Otherwise if I have to switch back to my Uverse box (like with the current xbox I have to for DVR functionality) then it is worthless to me.

Offline Play
This is pretty huge for me. Only needing to check every 24 hours is good but if I don't play my system for a week and then my Internet is down then video games are what I do for entertainment. Having my system say "Service Denied! Please connect to Xbox Online to verify game status" would piss me off to no end. This would be rare but still it annoys me enough that I remember times like this with other devices (read: DRM computer games).

Indie titles.
I bought and played the shit out of Castle Crashers directly on the advice from people on this forum. I don't get this decision at all...

how does ps+ work with those games you get for free, like if your ps+ sub expired do you lose all those games or are they yours forever or do you only get to play as long as your ps+ sub is active?

You get them as long as the sub is active. If your sub is not active you cannot access them, but if you resub you get access again.

You only get to keep the games as long as your sub is active. But, as if you unsub and then resub at a later date you get back every game you have ever gotten from the service.

Its gonna take at minimum 3 years for Microsoft to pull the massive wedge Sony jammed in their asses tonight back out again.

Its just too bad Microsoft is too big to die. Cause with Win 8 flopping and now this, they really should die as a company.

I don't even hate them, they're just really really stupid and bad at business. Microsoft is the perfect example of that company that got too big and too insulated from market forces and now can't find its way anymore.

What a clusterfuck. Its like the roles with Microsoft and Sony totally reversed, the prices on the new consoles are evidence of that. How much you think Microsoft could have dropped the price if they hadn't forced the stupid kinect in with the base system?

I bet at least 100 bucks.

The slaughter that Sony just unleashed was even more bloody than the red wedding. Holy shit.

And I'm glad. I hope this DRM shit is the downfall of this generation's Xbox.

Well actually no , if given the choice PC all the way. But yes i will be buying both , like i did last gen and they will both sit and collect dust and get fired up from time to time for the odd exclusive game that i want to play. People actually have jobs and dont need to choose only one and be ok with actually owning both systems and dont feel guilty. Try it , its fun!

In my eyes, this is how a monolith like Microsoft *does* die though. Not entirely, I mean of course they still exist and sell products/develop technology & software but let's face it - once you're recognized as a near trump card in several different fields for so long as an easily recognizable elite logo and top tier brand/product technology, it's a slow ride down to the depths of completely falling out. But this is not looking good for maintaining such a behemoth of long timed success. Microsoft isn't now and hasn't been for a long time what it used to be and doesn't mean the same things for the industry that it used to.

The Xbox division is such a minute fragment of Microsoft's overall business though, they could just cut off that arm and still have like 4 spare good ones. In the long run I still think Win8 is a good move, poorly delivered and received, but once people get over themselves about it it'll help MS out in the future more than not building a mobile-friendly OS would.
