There isn't a point at the moment. HDTV's came out way before most people could even receive that type of quality as well. There will be 4K Blu Rays, and my guess is they are hoping the next quality jump catches on like 1080p did.
4k is already dead. 8k will be the next "big" thing. Heck Japan is already rolling out 8k camera's.

FFS I thought you were being sarcastic, then I googled that shit.
its because 4k is actually 2k and 8k is 4k, its stupid because they moved from 2nd number in resolution moniker 480, 720, 1080(1k) to the first number to make it 4k rather than 2k so it sounds like a bigger jump... Before they decided to push out 4k it was kinda already outdated as 8k was deved along with it much like 720 and 1080.

Spoken like someone who hasn't ever used Windows 8 I bet.
You'd lose your money in this case. I do regret upgrading it though - the start screen is an abomination, as is the minimum level of protection requiring you to approve programs writing to ini files in their installed directory - I'm not even going to mention the default levels.

Alright, good point about Nintendo. I feel like they might be an outlier, though. I guess I'll have to look into it if I ever care more than to ask a question on a forum :p

What did you guys think would happen if you were banned? It's fucking terrifying if you buy a lot of digital games.

From what I understand uncompressed trailers for 4k take up like 500gb and full movies are like 2tb+. Currently there is probably no available way without some crazy compression to get in on a medium that is cost effective. Sony is actually just providing servers and you are streaming it from them.

I'm no expert but if 4k has roughly 4x as many pixels as 1080p wouldn't it be roughly 4x the size? (as in a full length movie being 200GB)?

Yeah pretty much, it's talking about fitting it onto a 50GB blu-ray though. 4 disks with swapping isn't really a good experience for movie watching.

Yes and no.

If they choose to stick with the h.264 codec, then yes, 4k movies will be around 200gb in size, but they'll most likely make the switchover to h.265 which is twice as efficient as h.264, meaning 4k movies would be around 100gb in size.

Edit - Apparently, triple layer BDXL standard blu-ray discs have a capacity of 100gb, which would line up well with the expected file size of 4k encoded movies.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc#BDXL

It should allow for 4k encoded movies to be burned onto a single disc.

Fine with me. If I gotta get my fat ass up to switch discs though, fuck their technology.

So you have played a full screen video game on Windows 8 and all of a sudden METRO APP OUT OF NOWHERE POPS UP? Yeah don't think so.

I hung out with my xbro friends tonight and they cleared everything up. Those pics of PCs running windows at E3 were just photoshops, everything you saw at E3 was running on an Xbox One because Microsoft said so. All of the Sony demos were just prerendered video, but the MS stuff was all legit because you saw the guys right there with an Xbox controller in their hands and you can't fake that.

Also, we're all wrong about the hardware specs. The PS4 doesn't actually have a faster video card and better RAM or any of that, because that's all just made up speculation. No one knows the actual specs. Not even ATI, AMD or any of the game developers.

Sony is actually going to go bankrupt before the PS4 ever launches; the entire console is just smoke and mirrors.

Also, you get like a 5000 ping in Call of Duty on PS3 bros.
