I kind of got the same impression of half ass on a lot ofstufff I really couldn't care less about.

Last thing I need is the Xbox adding latency and time to simple functions like changing a channel. Especially since I still need the remote for most of viewing anyway.

If they wanted to do it right they would of added a cable card slot, massive hard drive and give me a dvr. Not just play prison bitch to my existing box via hdmi.

Much like the 3d movie and game fad of several years ago, the push by Microsoft to pretend a gaming console is also a cable box, toaster and all purpose cappuchino machine is a bad idea looking for a justification to exist that will be superceded by far superior innovations in the coming years, just as 3d is being pushed aside in favor of concepts like the Occulus Rift.
I think the main problem is that all the functions the Xbone is championing are stuff that is becoming standard in smart tvs and cableboxes. If they could replace the cable box or something it might be worth it. As it is, it's a day late and a dollar short for what it wants to do and will have to stand on its own as a gaming platform.

Yup.

I mean even with the ps4, its nice and all to have netflix and all that, but I have a TV that streams all that shit anyway. And two pcs that can stream it, a cell phone that can stream it, an ipad that can stream it. Oh and did I mention you can control tvs from ipads and cell phones now? Also the cable box is going the way of the dodo at some point, so who cares if they successfully replace it?

Every dollar more that they spend on this bullshit is a dollar less they're spending on making the machine powerful enough to play games for years to come, frankly. 100 dollars more for a less powerful console the trade off being you get a bunch of half assed useless or mostly useless features with the promise that one day in the far flung future (right before the Xbone 2 release) the system will be something you don't really need in a console anyway.

Not a single review says that and I've read them all.
If you read the Kotaku review, he mentions a bunch of obviously half-finished and probably will never finish shit.

Xbox off turning off your tv if it is already on.
Detecting and logging in another person that isn't even in the room.
Voice commands only working 85% of the time.
Foot movements being accidentally detected as hand gestures.

No one gets points from me for trying something ambitious and failing. They get points for trying something and succeeding. It seems to me from that review that the Xbox one is trying things it cant handle. Voice detection just isn't good enough to be used for shit like this. The second you lose game progress because of dumb shit like that, you will shut it off for good. All that research and shit for nothing. Well, maybe Kinect3.0 for Xboxtwo.

To me the big question for the Xbone's integration as a media platform is a user's ability to use the kinect as a way to control the system. That's the big advantage it has over someone's smart tv/cable box. I haven't seen any demos that would make me think, "Yeah I'd rather use that than a remote/smartphone/computer to decide what my tv is doing"

Lot of tvs and cable companies have voice activation now. I'd much rather just speak into a remote then wave my hands like a retarded Tom Cruise in Minority Report. Also I dont need my channel changing to the fucking oprah winfrey network everytime I do a fist pump during a football game.

I just don't want to talk to my TV. I mean its always in some science fiction movie or something and just seems like somehting I woulnd't care to use. Reminds of of that scene in Demolition Man, where he tries to turn on the lights and that asshole Snipes changed the word to Illuminate

Reviews state there isn't any latency or image quality issues. They also say the voice commands and Xbox TV guide are improvements over other guides. You only need the remote to view recorded content, which is something they're apparently working on.

Also, the best part of all the reviews, is that they also all state that the Xbox One is a capable gaming console all of this other shit notwithstanding. Not only is it a capable gaming console it has a better launch lineup than the PS4.

The voice commands, if they work well enough without repeating yourself 10 times, would be a bonus. Many times I catch myself in the kitchen, which faces my living room, watching something while cooking and I dont want to touch anything with my grubby ass hands, so yeah voice would win out. Check different channels, turn volume up or down, pause, record, all that bullshit would be used. But yeah when Im sitting in my living room exclusively watching TV, remote is always in hand.

The skype thing is nice too.

There are sound issues. Some surround formats are not supported and reduced to stereo when they go through the XB1. An automatic no-no for people with home cinemas. Might be patched sometime in the future though...

I don't know man, I think we all agree both systems have pretty terrible launch lineups.

I like what Xbox One "wants" to do. I'm still not convinced it can or is going to do it well, though.

I guess it depends on who you are. I have over 300 hours in Forza 3 and 4 so I'm really looking forward to 5. I'd probably buy Xbox One just for that game, let alone anything else.

In my opinion that is what consumers are going to start expecting. Not all the voice activated shit really, just the ability to be able to do everything at once. Look at tablets and smartphones. Do they just make calls? Or can they make calls, play games, read books, surf the web, etc?

I think one of the best things about Xbox One is that you can watch TV without missing out on any of the Xbox stuff. I can watch football while still seeing my friends list, browsing games, messaging, being in party chat, etc. I can get game invites while I'm doing other shit. I won't have to choose between TV or Xbox I can do both.

While I admit that a lot of the stuff they're showing so far is kind of meh, especially all the voice shit (I find it faster to navigate with the controller) - just the TV integration is a big deal to me.

All the snap stuff seems awesome also. I dunno, I think if they can get their TV integration more seamless it'll be a big help to what is already being called a strong start.
This is what I do not get at all. Your phone already does all that shit. Why would you want friend requests to pop up on your TV? You're going to message and talk with them there? I can't imagine ever wanting to do that. That's what your tablet and smartphone that you have right beside you when you're at the TV is for anyways and both are much better for doing it.

And the disgusting level of ADHD bullshit where everything has to do everything at once is just ridiculous. The need for certain people to distract themselves from entertainment while distracting themselves from life is just a new level of crazy. Just sit down and watch the damned TV show/movie or play the damned video game, you don't need to be doing 50 things at once and updating twitter and messaging all of your "friends".

When I go to watch a show or play a game I sit the hell down and tune everything else out, I assure you it's a far better experience than doing a whole bunch of meaningless shit at once.

Yeah I think eventually it will do all it advertises. It's concepts aren't hard it just needs to finalize some stuff and fix some bugs but they had to risk a launch right now or get so behind Sony they would never recover.
