I would only be mildly interested if they use the light beaming technology instead of the already outdated 'lcd screen in front of your eyes' technology. Anyway, unless it's the pet project of some executive at Sony, I don't see them adventuring in the head mounted display territory for more than a super niche (and, as a result, high price) gadget only created to keep their street cred' as a high-tech company.

Once the Rift comes out there will be no reason for any corporation with access to high def screens to not be able to produce a quality ~$500 display. Oculus is doing an immense amount of novel work to pioneer that field and provide textbook and open source solutions to VR problems. And given how people are disillusioned with games on 2d screens after using the Rift I think you'll see the kind of demand shift that will motivate sony/MS to make their consoles VR compatible.

I think the new Donkey Kong is 720p/60fps, but it looks amazing. I think Rayman Legends was 1080/60 though, so the Wii U is capable of it on certain games.

So without more 3rd party support do you think the Wii-U console will have a shorter cycle before a newer system than the Wii did? It would be fairly odd since i dont forsee the swagstation or sexbox doing it, but developers dont seem interested in developing for it. On top of that they will have the heavy hitters released within a year or so and after that then what? start making the same games they just made again?

I know alot of people support nintendo and their joy of rehashing 1st party titles endlessly but i cant see myself buying it until it has some new blood in it. Perhaps if they did a super mario rpg or something but even then it doesnt have enough games id like to play.

It occurs to me that a challenge Nintendo faces is that they can no longer be the go-to console for children. Why? Because there are now too many parents who are gamers, so they buy a console for themselves and then buy games for children on it instead of buying a console for their children. The problem is composed by hand-me-down (children get last gen consoles when parents buy the new gen) and generation overlaps (last gen consoles being cheaper, well supported and having a number of cheap games available new or 2nd hand).

The Wii managed to escape that conundrum by becoming the console for the non-gamers (and their children), but sadly it did not work too well has a trojan horse to create new gamers or even convince their public of non-gamers to upgrade to the Wii-U.

It's clear that the communication on the Wii-U was a total clusterfuck (they tried to talk to the non-gamer by focusing on the controller, but all it did is create confusion: people thought it was a new peripheral for the Wii) and that its design is flawed, but even without these problems I am not sure there still is a place on the market for a Nintendo console. In Japan their brand still carries them, but outside Japan it feels (strong research right there!) like most of their sales come from hyper-gamers that are ok to buy the console (on top of another and/or a gaming PC) just for the big Nintendo IPs and the occasional good 3rd party exclusive.

I am sure Nintendo shareholders are displeased and Nintendo executives are restless, but I am not sure what they will do next... Stop making non-handheld hardware and release games on the other consoles? Remain in their niche and make it viable? Buy the Xbox division? Be very aggressive with the price/power ratio of their next console and cut the licensing fees and barrier of entry to a minimum to attract indies and 3rd parties?

Plus the goto console for a lot of children is an ipad/tablet.

I might sell my xbone and get a Wii-U pretty soon. Nintendo is one of the few companies that refuses to greed-fuck everyone with the day 1 dlc and season pass faggotry, i feel an ethical need to reward that policy with my money.

I've been contemplating a WiiU for a long time myself. If the right bundle comes along I'll instantly buy it and not regret the decision at all.

do it, i got the deluxe WiiU a few weeks ago. Not a bad deal considering when you purchase something from the E shop you can cash back towards other E-Shop games.

Playing games using the game pad is great every damned controller needs to be like this. When my neices and nephews are over, they can watch their Disney JR while i game on my controller. lol

Anyone else finding some games have way too small of text on PS4? Never really had this problem until Don't Starve and now with the FF XIV beta. I can't read the f'ing text from my couch and have to practically sit 4 feet away from my 55" TV to see it comfortably. My couch is about 9 feet away from the TV. I'm pretty sure my contacts don't need to be stronger, as it's really only with a few games.

On the bright side, it has me considering a new, much bigger TV. On the down side, I don't want to buy one!

Nintendo consoles haven't had 3rd party support for the last 3 generations - they won't live or die by it.

yes on voice chat, absolutely gorgeous graphics and pretty smooth combat and shit. horrible launcher (sized at like... 360p or something, can't read shit) and the text box in the client is utter shit too, too tiny to read on my 60" and everyone else I have seen says its too small, probably a bug to fix. who cares though, unless the game has changed a lot chat is worthless anyways.

unfortunately the current ps4 servers are flooded and everyone has to reroll a new level 1, so dunno how lag and shit will be in the big dungeons or raids. seems fun enough though, especially since 1 sub will cover both pc/ps4. I have a vita too so that could be pretty cool, but im just going to wait until the ps4 beta lets you transfer in your existing chars, cuz fuck leveling in ff14.

Will check later myself (set it to DL) - don't expect an issue with my vision though, I'm sure the wife will find it a pain if "normal folk" are she's blind as a bat.
