3m vs. 5.6m sold is a big gap. Resolutions on multiplats aren't improving and it's apparent developers give no fucks about parity. Also, don't forget about that price drop and game bundle now.

HOW IS 3.49 MILLION ONLY 3 MILLION?! CAN YOU READ?

Xbox One with FIFA - Microsoft Store United Kingdom Online Store

Looks like they're dropping the FIFA bundle down too. I find it hard to not interpret the price drop as desperation. Did Gamespot get that sweet MS money like Polygon?

e: Did they release final sales? I was just using numbers I saw last week and adding in the 300k from Japan. I think Japan was closer to 350k but I rounded down. Still over a 2 million difference though.

LOL, the UK is so small. Desperation is when you lower it in the US.

But honestly you are getting 60 bucks off of the Titanfall combo, because if you are buying a Xbox right now it's to play Titanfall.
Be like buying the orginal Xbox when it launched and not getting Halo...

I just think it's a big deal because the UK is their #2 (3? I guess if you count Canada?) market. I think they also used to have a pretty strong grip on it. Still reeks of desperation though since there's more than a Titanfall bundle being dropped. One of the big arguments about the Xbone is how the system is weaker and you don't get anything special for the extra price, unless for some reason you really want the Kinect.

I guess they could have reassessed the price due to the VAT but that should mean the price remains at that price point going forward. If I was an Xbone consumer, I'd be kind of annoyed about these price drops and special offers in other markets.

If Sony pulled this crap I'd be pretty annoyed.

Wow, hate to be a Canadian if you were pulling the strings.

Early adopters always get screwed this is nothing new.
But to their credit they will be playing Titanfall in 2 weeks which looks to be another smash hit for MS ips.

Having Halo, Titanfall, and Gears locked up sure doesn't hurt them.

Considering Canada has less than half the population of the UK, it's pretty safe to say the UK was the 2nd market for Xbox 360.

Whats amazing is the UK has half the population of Japan, but Sony sold over a half a mill in the UK to Japans 322.

There is some hard core gaming going on in the UK.

Also, according to the Sales stats for the 360 , Europe as a market sold 8 million versus the UK 3.2 mill.
Still very impressive for a population of 63 mill.

Median age in Japan is 44.6 - 2nd highest in the world (behind Monaco which is trivial in size) ALOT of their population is old people that ain't gonna game.

Average age in the UK is 40....

40-50 is hardly considered senior citizens, not sure what crack you are smoking.
Look at the full demographic figures for Japan - their population is 23.1% 65+ - the UK for example is 16.4% 65+ with just over 1/3 of the population being in the "video gamer" age range of 15-40. (I'd give the 15-40 for Japan to compare, but it's not available on anything I'm getting on Google just 13-64 ones that are a little too wide for "gamer ages")

[US is 12.8% 65+ for comparison's sake FYI, again wikipedia is only doing 15-64 for giving a "gamer age" figure]

More in short - not even just counting age differences (and Japan is well known as a "grey society" because of the lack of kids being born with way more elderly) - the markets are just different. Markets aren't homogenous entities.

Thats great, and all. Still the UK with half the pop sold almost double the amount of PS4s.

You can say it's a culture thing to you are blue in the face which just backs up my point that the UK seems to be pretty massive gamers.

But according to the market report they were the #3 market for the 360.

I'm trying to agree with you, just trying to cover some aspects of why. Got a feeling most small island (Japan is pretty damn huge even though it's technically an island) people's tend to be a bit heavier into gaming though. I know the family we've got in Hawaii are the most hardcore folks I know besides the wife and I - and they fit their gaming around work. I was never particularly hardcore while working.

Yeah, the idea that developers would code for the lowest common denominator has been completely blown out of the water.
They still are, people in this thread were just using it COMPLETELY WRONG over and over. Gameplay, game design, how big the worlds are, how they're laid out, AI complexity, and the base of the engine are allheavilyhamstrung by the X360/PS3 versions of games right now. Building for the lowest common denominator has dick all to do with "Graphical parity" and everything to do with the limitations of game design.

Thankfully the Xbone won't holdmuchof anything back in this regard. That version of the game will just have a resolution & FPS drop and turn off things like advanced Ambient Occlusion techniques or not have things like the Atmospheric Simulations in MGS5.

And here's yet another little game coming:http://www.gameinformer.com/games/re...fall-2014.aspx

I'm pretty excited that this generation seems to just be facilitating a huge comeback in smaller studios due to much easier and cheaper it is to work on the x86 architecture across all platforms. Sony's huge push to support them all is great too.

Fuck all the "doom and gloom" people who say that the industry is dying, it's going to come back healthier than ever.
