If you count trying to convince people that fps and resolution don't actually matter as "addressing" their hardware shortcomings, then sure.
Better and worse products being available isn't exactly a "bad thing" - as long as they're priced appropriately in the marketplace. His point was that they addressed the fact that it was a premium price for a worse product, instead of a cheaper price for a worse product as it should be.

Sure, competition is good. It was more of a shot at Phil Spencer's pathetic attempts at damage control in interviews than at the Xbone itself.
I dunno, I'd almost say forget them both for now. I bought my PS4 on release day and have barely played the thing. I get WAY more usage out of my PS3 (games + mediaplayer). But this comes from a non-hardcore gamer. As in, I probably spend maybe 10 hours a week playing a game.
