I wonder how much that will mess up the narrative. Watching a streamer. And it really is designed for the timer. instead of hard coding it so, doing one thing, causes the other missions to fail. it uses this timer system.

Better Story Timer

Simple tweak to progress without hurry and difficult choices. Choose one of 3 options:
  • every quest takes 30min or 1 segment,
  • every quest takes 30min or 1 segment, day has 2 times more segments, interpolation speed is x0.5,
  • every quest takes 30min or 1 segment, day has 3 times more segments, interpolation speed is x0.33,
You can easily adjust it your needs in game.ini. Sticky has instructions how to do that.

Yeah, I could maybe see modding to remove the time progression for learning skills but anything beyond that seems like a really dumb idea.

Trying to even think of games with timers that put me off. The only game I can think of with timers, and it was amazing (arguably better then OOT) is Majora's mask. Also persona games and that worked fine too.

Anyone here playing it yet? Not watching it on a stream but playing it? If so I'd love your thoughts.

I put in about 4 hours to get through the intro and finally get the 30 days rolling. Will play more later.

Initial thoughts: combat might be worse than Witcher 3, somehow. Clearly designed for controller and the lock on system is weird. Group battles are annoying because of it.

Voice work is all over the place. Some lines come out way too clear for the environment they're in, not matching the soundstage, etc. Some scenes had subtitles but no voice line.

Inventory / UI kinda sucks. Want to equip an item? Just drag and drop to the slot...hmm, no, didn't work. Okay just double click... Nope, gear didn't go anywhere. Right click context menu? Doesn't exist... Oh. Obviously, You need to click the item you want with your mouse and then press ENTER on your keyboard. DUH!

Anyway I'll see how day 2 goes.

I'm about as far - loved a bunch of the intro cinematics, story beats etc. Feels very Witcher. However, the game is incredibly buggy - I have this super weird thing on steam controller where when you even slightly move the left trigger anywhere but up it stops you dead. Like sprinting in wolf form, turn, stop, restart. Almost making this unplayable. Also graphically, it ran rock solid... last night. Today when booting up, my screen flickering is non stop. Changing settings and restarting helps, then flickering again.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit, but getting pretty annoyed at the issues. Combat is for me pretty good, but 5+ enemies becomes a block-fest with not much time to attack. It's a AA game with great writing and character building so far, and plenty of AA jank/bugs.

What game in the last decade has come out clean day one? Why do people pre-order? The customer is the beta tester and has been for years.

Witcher 3 had some of the worst combat ever, and this is worse AND it was a time limit?

I played about 6.5 hours so far and I’m on day 4 of the timer of 30 days.

So far I enjoy the story and side quests, already a few minor ones where I wonder what the other option would be like, so success on that part.

Even in the prologue you realize you won’t have time to do all the side quests before it ends.

i highly dislike the combat, might personal issue though because of my condition which makes me inaccurate with the directional parry, I had to put the game on story mode. Even with my personal issues, I can tell I would have disliked it anyways, encounters with 3-5 enémise is parry fest. Although I’ll admit that when you string a few parries and attack it can have its cool moments.

Finally the timer, I don’t mind it so much in the open world and activities and quests, I would prefer it not to exists though. I hate it in the skill tree. You basically have 3 trees, witchcraft, sword mastery and vampirism. Witchcraft during the day, vampirism at night and sword mastery during both, which has made me spennd the majority of my points in sword mastery because it works both during day and night. I’m hesitant to waste my timer on the stuff that can only be used half the time. Really not a fan.

All in all, I’m enjoying the game. It’s far from perfect but they nailed most of the important stuff to me, and most of the shortcomings are on stuff I find matter less to me.

Timer = never touch. I quit the Final Fantasy game with the timer shit. Just makes the whole playthrough worse.

Put in a couple more hours. It's kinda funny that the main complaint here is the timer but I think it's probably the best mechanic the game has going for itself. Given the combat, camera, VA jank, the time system feels totally fine and the transient nature of a lot of quests will lead to unique playthroughs.

Witchcraft during the day, vampirism at night and sword mastery during both, which has made me spennd the majority of my points in sword mastery because it works both during day and night. I’m hesitant to waste my timer on the stuff that can only be used half the time. Really not a fan.

IMO the sword tree is bait, and the interesting/powerful stuff is in the other two.
