Didn't see any threads for the movies. Took some time to watch a bunch of them this weekend, pretty entertaining/freaky from a scary movie perspective.

Here are the current movies from the series in chronological order:

1. The Nun (2018)
2. Annabelle: Creation (2017)
3. Annabelle (2014)
4. The Conjuring (2013)
5. Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
6. The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
7. The Conjuring II (2014)
8. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)

By release date:

1. The Conjuring (2013)
2. Annabelle (2014)
3. The Conjuring 2 (2016)
4. Annabelle: Creation (2017)
5. The Nun (2018)
6. The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
7. Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
8. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)

The Nun 2 is coming out in 2023 and The Conjuring 4 is TBA.

The Conjuring was great. All that suspense/scare and zero people died by the end. Really showed what a horror movie could do without the need for death.

I like these, and I generally think most new horror is shit. Old school vibes in a new wrapper. I watched all of them for the first time just last year. Forgot which ones I liked the most. I do recall a couple of them being meh (maybe La Llorona?) but I forgot. Not awful though.

Some of the movies have a slower drip of scary and have good build ups (like Annabelle: Creation).

The Wes Anderson'esque slow motion scene with Van Morrison playing didn't do this one any favors except for telegraphing that, hopefully, this remains the last one.

Not worth watching unfortunately even as a fan of the Conjuring franchise. Unlike 1,2,3 the scares weren't there, but neither were the absentee Warren's. If you are watching for seeing the Warrens do badass shit and handle business, there is none of that original tension present here.

Nothing is going to be 1 and 2 again, but 4 was really slapped together with a terribly paced story. Bad to the degree that we decided the director hates the Warrens. The entire premise of 1 and 2 is that they are problem solvers and get busy when it's go time. 4 assassinated their characters TLJ style, and for what reason? It's supposed to be a send off and loveletter to the Warrens but it spends the whole movie sandbagging them and making them appear like inept hacks. People just wanted to see some badass Warren fighting like 1,2,3. Instead in the finale of this movie the Warrens suck. Ed Warren spends the entire finale as a professional mover trying to move furniture. "Help me move this shit". Terrible finale.

The Warren's don't enter the house until 1h 20m into the movie. Pacing is not the only problem here. We watched it to pay respect to the Conjuring franchise and the original films, we knew beforehand from reviews that it was going to be garbage. It was worse than I thought.
