I think Dog Soldiers still edges this out as my favorite werewolf movie, but this is definitely close. It's really good.

This was really good, way prefer the jerky animatronic practical effects over cgi. Wife and son thought it was great as well.
8.5/10, highly recommend.

One of the better Shudder movies in the past several years. The practical-effects shots of the body are great, except for the full-body shots, especially when it's leaning against things. There are some redundancy issues with the script and plot. It would be a well-paced 45-minute to 1-hour horror film. It doesn't need to be nearly 2 hours, and it eats screen time to fill that out with driving shots, scenes that do a single thing, and a few plot threads that don't really need to exist.

The full monster reveal is great. Where it takes the genre is interesting, and it gets to where it needs to be despite my thoughts about how long that takes. There are good setups and payoffs, with some of the setups being clunky, but, again, the payoffs hold up. I got the sense that the writer/director had a hard time killing his darlings and had an odd insecurity about some of the scenes that he shot. There were more than a few scenes where he set something up where the dialogue and the scene worked together perfectly to reveal so much story, and then he'd have another scene where he'd reiterate the part that was shown and not told. I think that it also could have just faded to credits after the water scene and had a more successful ending.

I think that Landis had an alright story that he turned into something great, and this guy wrote a great story that ended up being a good film. I would bet his next project has more confidence, and he gives the script room to do exactly what it needs to do without redundancy.

I'd also say that it's a 7 or 8 out of 10, with a 9 hiding in here with some editing.
