Dice. I've bought those cheap ass Amazon packs of like 12 sets for 20 bucks. That way I can put them out for my players or the kids. I've got myself a set of gencon dice from 07 that I've used since. But even that was a $10 set.

ive never liked the idea of metal, stone, glass dice. Shits either gunna break or scuff my table and books.

But for minis. Omfg I have like over 2000 of the wizards and wizkjds ones. Then I have boxes and boxes of reaper minis from kickstarters.
I've resisted the siren's call for 3-D minis. I have to or I'd probably have spent $20k on those alone because I wouldn't want unpainted minis and I can't paint for shit. So I'd be forced to have them professionally painted.

My wife tolerates me buying books, but a lot of it has to do with the fact that the vast majority of them can be re-sold for what I paid (or more), but minis are a cash shredder.

The d&d minis actually hold price very well. I'd likely make 3 to 5 times what I've paid for them. I used to buy the old wizards minis. They were dirt cheap for years. Especially during the old 4e days.

The new wizkids ones aren't as nice imo. And are a bit pricier. But still I get them all like 25% to 40% off

Ya, there was definitely a window where it would have been worth it, but I don't think that's true anymore. However, I could be wrong. I don't have my finger on the pulse of the economy of it, but it's already tempting enough as is so I don't want to know....lol

Oh I hear that dude. And don't look lol. But at the same time. I'd never sell mine. Hopefully one of my kids or grandkids one day will be a dm and get it all.

My group survived the Beholder encounter, but just barely. They had a couple key saves at moments a failure would have snowballed into a TPK.

I didn't want them to die, but I definitely wanted to challenge them by providing an encounter that was memorable and I'm pretty sure I did that because when it was over they all said how fun it was.

My players also left on a cliffhanger last session. They ended at the sacrificial altar under Durst Manor (Death House), about to be attacked by Walter the Flesh Mound. They're all new players and this is my first time DMing so I'm excited to see how the first big boss fight goes.

I painted a shambling mound mini for this, copying how this guy did it. Here's mine:

Nice paint work, the tokens on vtt do not have the same impact as a sweet mini.

I made two major collecting scores today and they complete my Planescape collection. I have a great condition copy of everything ever printed for the setting.

Have any of you tried using OneNote to organize all your stuff? Just found out about it and I'm wondering if there are any major drawbacks before I dive into it. Seems like it would save a lot of space behind my DM screen.

Also, session today went very well. They had a lot of fun fighting the Flesh Mound. I had the house start crumbling as the fight ended. All but one of them escaped (the dwarf player sacrificed himself to save the party). The rest explored Barovia village, had an encounter with Strahd, and we ended as they were preparing to escort Ireena & Fr. Donavich to Vallaki.

So this weekend I've got my Halloween event coming up.

My old character who is our Mcguffin now will be telling an old tale/myth he heard back in his days at an academy.

A door in the abyss leading to an ancient treasure vault. Built by a primordial when they were still at war with the gods.

Well also be racing a random 2nd "team" to our prize. Ala national treasure.

It's going to be 3 puzzle rooms and 3 possible encounters.
-A dragonbone golem trap.
-A statue trap that's a zombie clot.
-And a fight against thr other team, who turn out to be a few devils and a lesser defunct archduke.

The items I made up f or loot are:

Deaths Pallid Guard Leather chest. It'll have 1 aura and 2 encounter powers.
-A soul leech aura that deals 1d6 dam and grants that many hit points.
-skeletal apparition shield encounter power. To add ac and counter attack on 1st hit.
-necrotic chains encounter power. Summons 2 spectral reapers within 15ft of you attached to a 15ft spectral chain.

Deathstroke talisman, an amulet that is a clump of scalped skin wrapped in barbedwire. On crit it stuns target for 1d4 rounds.

Demonic bag of holding. It's not a true bag. Instead it has a bagman inside of it. (That'll be another adventure)

Ganduuls heart of the construct amulet. Which allows the wearer to construct a lesser bone golem.

I might be doing a christmas one shot soon and the DM said we could each pick a single item from the DM guide as a Christmas gift. So, what do I want? I'll probably be playing a battle master for this. Is there a good source for finding those items and maybe searching for things that would be useful for fighters? I don't have a physical DM guide so it'll have be something on the internet.

I was thinking of a cloak or bag of many things but it looks like those are not in the DM guide. The Deck of Many things is though so I'm looking at that now. Looks dangerous/fun.

The deck is pretty great, a Luck Blade is a +1 weapon with a d4-1 wish spells.

A iron Horn of Valhalla can summon 5d4+5 cr2 spiritual beserks that are only loyal if you are proficient with all martial weapons so that is fun/thematic, once per 7 days

jesus. thats a lot of beserkers. I hope I don't have to feed them.

So would I have to roll those zerkers up or do they have preset stats and abilities?
