David Simon is back !
Pilot was awesome, got that The Wire vibe to it. Also James Franco is excellent.

Yeah I thought the pilot was pretty damn good. Will definitely watch the next episode.

I enjoyed the pilot episode, I thought it did a good job creating the scene that was 1970's NYC.

On a side not, I HATE the "parent trap" same person plays two characters gimmick.

This is just a pet peeve of mine, nothing particular to do with the show.

I never visited NYC until 2012 or so and by then it was really cleaned up. I have read that it used to be a real dangerous and ghetto shit hole. I can't imagine anything in NYC looking like what's depicted in this show these days.

The Deuce's NYC reminds of films like Serpico or French Connection, how characters run the scenery while "the city" is the big giant lying around. I just hope the show wouldn't get too under the radar like Treme did. David Simon work really need recognition, since it never did during The Wire.

Man... I dunno. This show needs to start going somewhere. It's pretty much just "day in the life of" stuff without the forward momentum that The Wire had.

Yeah heavy on the meandering and predictable in the 3rd episode. Admittedly, I fast-forwarded a few minutes of the first 30 minute half. Mostly the Maggie Gyllenhaal stuff just isn't interesting anymore after Episode 1. I'm not in the demographic of who that character was written for, so no big deal.

Getting existential vibes from not necessarily the plots but the editing and directing, not so riveting in Episode 3. The characters are great, however.

Abby makes no sense as a character. Miss an exam at university. Drop out and become a prostitute.

Got it.

I felt that way during the first episode. It was just a bunch of random stories. Moving very slowly. Will give 2nd episode a try. But the first episode felt like 7 hours long.
