None of that came across in the movie. The 2nd act was strong.

Scott personally stated this is one of his best movies this decade, and that probably isn't far off given the work he's turned in.

That's good to hear. Was going to try and wait tonight or Friday and save The Cycle for Halloween.

It's an epic, with smaller scale and story than Scott's previous movies.

Not must see. But it won't get shut off-- and you'll finish it, is where I stand on it.

I guess I was more interested on how he was going to handle a post-apocalyptic film which I don't think he's ever really done before to my knowledge, or maybe I'm forgetting something in his earlier body of work but I don't think I am.

It's pared down. Not a huge exploration of the setting here. Small scope small story. Just enough defining to check the post-apocalyptic box.

There is a homage to Fallout New Vegas thrown in which he obviously cribbed from for this, so not very original either-- but he made it work. Although it felt out of sync and a sudden change in directing. It had the feeling of randomly queuing up a Fallout bit in the middle of the movie. Tonally he didn't really blend it in. He just said alright now let's do a Fallout bit and copy the tone from the TV series/games.

I thought it was really good, really enjoyed it. It isn't ground breaking but just a very good movie. Soundtrack was also great. I've been listening to a lot similar stuff on Spotify recently so it really hit that current mood nerve. It could almost be a Warren Ellis / Cave type thing.

I will say that the only just minor nit pick would be the extreme convenience of him crashing and wandering up to the two nicest people left on earth and one of the 2 happens to be a hot chick. Talk about lucky![/spoiler[
