I almost made this post because I couldn't find a thread. I watched this over the weekend and was curious on takes.

I was a bit tepid on the movie as it progressed, it did achieve being very uncomfortable to watch.

Maybe I'm desensitized, but the way the premise kicked off didn't ring true to me. The absolute meltdown of the girlfriend during the big reveal seemed too extra.

You can't agree to say the worst things you did and then judge someone who did not even do the bad thing. Perhaps if she went through with it originally, but that would be too far the other direction.

Anyway, very amusingly awkward watch. The continued compounding and self destruction by Pattinson was good.

It was going to end up a C, but I really thought the ending was perfect so I give it a B+.

Is this uncomfortable in it makes you think about taboo topics? I really liked After Life for that.

Or is this uncomfortable for second-hand embarrassment? If so, no thanks, repressed memories surfacing unasked do that enough.

I'll spoil the secret if you want to know. (it's not that big a deal, they tell you in the first 15 minutes).

She was bullied and developed an obsession with school shooters. She took her father's gun and was going to commit a school shooting. The only reason she didn't go through with it was because there was randomly another school shooting that day and she didn't want to be upstaged.

It's not second-hand embarrassment, other than for the film actual being made, and Zendaya being cast.

I'm a third of the way through this and paused to get something to drink.

Is this really it? Zendaya was in a really dark place when she was fifteen and everyone in her life now is going to dump on her? I knew not to expect something totally bananas, that the worst thing she ever did was grounded in reality, but this is shaping up to be the biggest miss for me that I've pushed play on in years. There's sixty minutes of runtime left and I'm going to need some twists or I'm going to end up hating the entire rest of the cast.

edit - damn, no twists. Mostly hate everyone but Zendaya but at the same time it seems bizarre for the film to set her up as sympathetic on purpose given the subject? It sure didn't feel like that early on unless it was supposed to be a journey for the audience to get there. Maybe?

Well crafted/shot/edited/etc but I don't know what to take from it. It's the first film that I've seen Zendaya in and she seems really good? I didn't watch any of the Spider Mens she's in nor Dune.
