Just finished the first one. Starts out interesting but kind of lags in the middle. Also seems to suffer from a lack of editing / proof reading, which normally I don't care too much about but it happened often enough that I took notice of it. The lack of logic / science is probably forgivable given its more of a space opera than a science fiction piece.
Still, it's a fun enough read. Not sure I'm going to rush into the 2nd book though.

There's a definite progression in his writing as the books go on. It's all self published, and I don't think he actually got an editor until book 4ish. I think most of the science is reasonably sound, but there are a few things you have to check your belief at the door.
