Since it's not D4 or GoW the TESVI subreddit is convinced it's related to Vaermina. I think it's more likely to be another ESO expansion. But I can also picture that door opening and Todd's faggot ass walking out.

edit: And Hammerfell has a giant desert so there's that.

Valve were omega trolls with the very ending of HL:Alyx - if they aren't working on HL3, then that game is the biggest bait in history lol

I'd like to believe they've effectively got a Source 3 engine or whatever and HL3 will be the debut, but some random "trust me, bro" post in the internet seems unlikely

All I know is the rumor mill has been out of control the past month or so. Something was fueling these rumors right before alyx released as well. I guess we will see soon.

i assume Jedi Fallen Order 3, although the studio behind Total War is supposed to also announce a W40K or Star Wars game today too

Reason for some of the rumors lately were the banners for steam. They never let anything compete with their own products (makes sense) in terms of the banners. Someone noticed that there would be a "gap" in the banner schedule due to one banner getting changed, and there being "nothing" until another banner. Last time that happened was when Valve did a surprise reveal.

It got rumored that it was HL3.

AI google overview lists it as

----------------------

The fan theory

  • Banner gap: A theory proposed that a large gap in the usual Steam homepage banner schedule, from November 18 to December 7, 2025, was an intentional setup for a major announcement.
  • Valve's pattern: According to this theory, Valve typically uses this prominent banner space for big announcements and avoids running the banner during large sales to prevent "cannibalizing" their own promotions.
  • Rescheduled sale: The theory was bolstered by the fact that the Autumn Sale, which usually occurs in November, was moved to September. The announcement for that sale even stated the change was "intentional".
  • Potential announcement: This gap was speculated to be for the announcement of either Half-Life 3 or Valve's new VR headset, codenamed "Deckard".

Counterarguments and reality

  • No Half-Life 3 reveal: As of December 4, 2025, there has been no official announcement of Half-Life 3.
  • Alternative explanation: The banner gap could have been for other reasons, such as the Dota 2 update that appeared on the Steam front page, making the Half-Life 3 announcement timing less likely.
  • Internal structure: Some argue that the Steam team and the Half-Life team are independent and would not coordinate their event schedules in this way

----------------------

Desert thing is most likely Diablo (the world serpent theory doesn't really make sense. Yes there is obviously a snake coiling around in the statue, but that tiny thing being the world serpent doesn't make sense). I hope it is a new God of War though. I have no interest in D4, haven't even gotten the first expansion since I didn't like the main game much more than I finished the story on one character and never went back. I put more time into the D2 remake/remaster than I did D4.

HL3 has no need for pre-build hype. If Valve released it next week, with no review copies just show a trailer at the game awards then update steam with it there, it would still get world wide press releases on it instantly to a level other devs would need a $100 million dollar marketing campaign to rival. Probably end up as one of the highest selling games this year with only two weeks to do it.

My guess its not half life 3 but a continuation of half life in VR. That shit was amazing and if that leak was true about the physics stuff and they can put out a piece of hardware and vr that runs well together they will have busted into mass consumption of their products.

However, another guess is the memory price fiasco just blew a hole in their plans and thats why pricing wasn't revealed.

Unless you can get something like the valve index for 1/5th the current cost, VR is going to remain a gimmick. HL:Alyx was the only VR title to actually interest me, but I’m not throwing down 1k to play it in VR

It really set the bar too, once I played alyx everything else felt like low quality trash. I wonder if its improved any at all.

I think VR is great for the sim crowd. It really changes how driving/flying feel. Even things like Elite Dangerous on the space side feel really epic in VR. I'd also say No Mans Sky in VR is pretty impressive and doesnt get enough credit for its VR implementation.
