I personally avoided it until very recently for this exact reason. For the most part, the combat is fun but I really hate QTEs especially in my old age. That and all the end game balance seems to revolve around either being able to perfect parry for literally over an hour or around one shot Maelle builds for the express purpose of sidestepping the press X to not die aspect of the game. And of course you have a bunch of poopsockers who want the latter nerfed in a single player game. No, fuck off I am not spending over an hour making zero mistakes parrying just to get some story clip and another goofy hairdoo.
That aside, it was clearly the best game of the year with Dispatch being the only game even remotely in the same class. I don't think that you can call it best of all time or even of the decade since Elden Ring, FO New Vegas, GOW Ragnarok, and BG3 exist, but its probably one of the best games ever made with a smaller team since the early days of gaming gave us the old Goldbox SSI games and so on. The music is top tier and the art/voicec acting/motion capture/story speak for themselves. But QTEs inserted into turn based RPGs are usually vastly out of place or overtuned, maybe Ar Tonellico and the Mario RPGs excepted.
