The amount of chicks I met on Yahoo chatrooms was unreal. You had to be clever though to find out if they were fatties or not without alerting them to what you were doing, it was especially difficult since webcams were very rare back then.

It was a time of innocence and fun, people were mostly respectful. Shit was so nice for about 1-2 years then it started going off the rails fast.

ya'll remember for 33.6 there was i think lucent 56k and us robotics x2 (56k), two different protocols and you called up the phone number depending on which one you had.

also i think it was usrobotics x2 that was selling their modems new, but it was just a regular 33.6 w/ updated firmware (cuz 56k is really just compression), so just download the firmware, and save yourself 100bucks.
Oh sure. Now you tell me 30 years later.
Asshole.

I was around 12-13 when Warcraft 2 came out and I was obsessed with it and started playing in multiplayer games through a program called Kali because it was pre-battlenet. I played the hell out of that game, most fun I ever had gaming. Whenever the wife asks me to do something or we are working around the house i still imitate the peon voice lines from that game to annoy my wife. “Work Work” “Something need doing?” “I can do that” “Be happy to”

There was a guy named Schlonglor that had a Warcraft 2 webpage with a bunch of multiplayer strategies and stories that he wrote up. I used to read that shit religiously.

Ah the late 90's and days of running roughshod over a geocentric #efnet channel that acted as a social hub before social media. Being and op in the channel and guy who threw parties a couple times a month. Good times.. good times...

I hadn’t thought about Warcraft 2 in so long. What an amazing fucking game. There was nothing like bloodlusting everything and charging in and dropping death and decays on their range.

the 90’s we’re just a great time to grow up. You had that string of blizzard video games, MJ and the Dream Team era basketball, ‘93 Phillies, a Goldilocks zone amount of internet porn, we just got done fucking the Soviet Union back to the Stone Age, you knew everyone’s phone number by heart, Seinfeld, going to the movie store was exciting as hell, great music from Pantera to Alice In Chains and tons more. Even fucking rap was good in the 90’s.

I remember there being a limit on how many people could connect at a time (IIRC). It's been a long time so I could be wrong.

Had a roommate that set up a small BBS in the living room. I want to say that only one person could connect at a time. He'd also start downloading 'huge' porn files in an attempt to create an adult section. Right up until another small BBS in town got rekt for child porn, I think it was, and every piece of electronics they owned was confiscated.

The resulting panic on my roommates end was real.

LORD and Trade Wars for life

Yes, only one person per line. I had a digiboard though so I just had an 8-plate of lines on the wall, all feeding into the digiboard and some deal with the phone company where they would have a single number but route it to a free line if available. I also had an EXCELLENT phone number I kinda wish I kept. It was 512-444-3333.

I remember being so impressed my old 386 could handle that. But OS2 2.1 was pretty amazing at the time and that system could handle 8 people at once with just a little lag from time to time.

I got a lot of pussy from local chicks at the time too, since everyone loved when the sysop would just surprise chat you.

It was easy for us. Agree to meet them at a local bar by Pinball machine or pool table at a certain time. Show up early. If they were fatties, we'd bail. If cute we'd go say hello.

This was the backup plan, you had to fish for pictures to get an idea of what they looked like

Early 80's got online using a 110 baud converted teletype modem. For a while had a fido net. Messages were stored and then transmitted at night to other nodes when the price for long distance calls were cheaper.
