Even as cynical as I am, the fact it's directed and acted by andy serkis gives me some hope, he has a good eye for picking scripts and taking parts that tell a worthwhile story. I don't think he would do this as just a cash grab.

I don't see any issue with the guy being cast. My issue is the overall movie itself is fucking stupid and not needed. I'll still watch it because I watch all high production fantasy movies.

The names attached are big, but there is 0 indication they are spending real money on this. I'm expecting Zack Snyder made for streaming service quality.

No budget has been assigned or authorized for this movie yet.

There are literally a million ideas they could explore within the Lord of the Rings universe without ruining existing lore. Like go do a faggot storyline exploring the lesser known Easterlings and whatever they were up to. That way no one will give a shit and it won't hurt anything.

Gollum will probably get a forced backstory of being a gay hobbit w/ a black hobbit partner. They'll say he was outcasted due to his forbidden love, and that's what eventually lead to his skulking bi-polar behavior as Gollum.
