I'm hoping this does well so I can have a new Seven Samurai film that isn't black and white.

Yeah, I'm really surprised we haven't seen a Seven Samurai remake (not including Magnificent Seven). Seems like a no-brainer to make, and Hollywood has no trouble with bastardizing things.

The music in these trailers just doesn't fit western to me at all and is really jarring. That, and the post-Inception era sound effects that make no sense given the context of the scene.

There seemed to be a lot of talk about this movie, then it came out and I've heard absolutely nothing. I'm sure that's not a good sign, but did anyone see this?

Eh, it was enjoyable, but nothing earth shattering. Not a bad way to kill an evening.

Utterly unmemorable, though I don't remember the original either.

In a Western mood? Go see Hell or High Water instead.

Nothing like Seven Samurai, as in good, it's decent i guess, but there's zero character building,
Antoine Fuqua basically said, "hey yo Denzel!, remember when i made training day? well lets get Ethen Hawk back and 5 other lackeys you can boss around, we'll have to be sure to get an injun, slant eye, a wetback and a fatguy tho, fuck this SJW world, yo", what do you say Denzel?

Movie was pretty much average as fuck. Denzel kills probably around 75 people. Vincent D'Onofrio fucking ruled in it. I couldn't help but smile and laugh whenever he talked. Best character, ever.

This was meh. Entertaining enough though. I didnt know this was a remake, was getting mad it was just a ripoff of seven samurai, looked it up midway through and said “oh ok, nvm I guess”...derp.

Seven Samurai so much better, still one of my favorite movies.

In 3 years well get a remake where a meek retarded man needs the help of 6 diverse girls and a trans thing to defend his vegan restaurant.

I'm mildly offended you love Seven Samurai but don't know the history of Kurasowa movies and remakes in the west :p The original Magnificent Seven is a pretty great movie that still holds up as a cowboy version of Seven Samurai. I showed it to my friend last year who really has no interest in older movies and she loved it.

This remake of a remake was tolerable but it really just failed to live up to its potential.

Well to be fair I became a fan of it when I was a teenager in the 90s. There wasn’t really an avenue to research movies back then, the internet wasn’t as information rich as it is now, and I honestly didn’t really use it for things like that back then (mostly porn and video game codes). I didn’t really start looking into the history of Seven Samurai until I ran into this remake of a remake. I’m caught up on it all now if it makes you feel less offended :p

Had forgotten about this remake until this thread was bumped. With this cast I would think that I would have seen it at the theater but that wasn't the case. It's not awful, but it's also not particularly good, which is unfortunate given how good the cast is.

this was one of those movies where if seven samurai was never made and no other film that was inspired by kurasawa was created, it would be a really good movie. but because kurasawa is SOOOOOOOOO ingrained in modern movie making, it just ends up being unspectacularly average. which is sad because as a film, it is very well done. no plot ruining errors, well acted, well produced... there just wasn't anything overly memorable about it.
