Dino has said Burton can't pull it off live at all anymore and from what I've watched from live shows he's not wrong. FF has a special place in my cold cynical heart. Saw them at a small gross metal venue in town in 99 with static x and system of a down opening. Holy shit I couldn't hear for days after. Was also my first taste of static and SOAD ... Both touring their debuts that I consider masterpieces to this day.
The biggest suprise was watching SOAD not knowing what I was in for. Standing in what would turn into the pit as they opened with PLUCK.

I had the same thought after searching for some live shit. A lot of these guys were probably just immortal in their own minds and felt they didn't need to take care of themselves and they are gonna live forever. Gotta take care of your voice, it ain't gonna last forever. Anselmo and Burton really display that first hand. It's amazing Corey Taylor has as much left as he's got - he was one of the smart ones that figured it the fuck out before it was career ending

I've been packing boxes all day and listening to surf rock and heavy metal, and probably one of the best things that I haven't listened to in a long time is a slew of iced Earth albums.
And I forgot how much I liked this concept album. There's such a great goddamn band, and I remember buying I guess the first album that I had discovered them with was the Dark Saga and the whole goddamn thing was about Spawn. Horror show is great because it's all about the classic movie monsters, and then they had the glorious burden and there were songs about Attila and valley forge, just good stuff.
I guess they're magnum opus stuff is all about the birth of the wicked Armageddon and antichrist stuff.

Corey Taylor is actively taking it easy now. I don't watch Steve-Os podcast but I did catch a clip in my algorithm with Corey on the podcast and talking about how he's always in pain now and it's getting harder to move. The 90s were fucking wild for the metal scene and a lot of bands just didn't care. Now they're older it's biting them all in the ass.

Probably my favorite cigars the Rocky Patel, The Edge. It's a cigar that I guess my brother always got and that's what we always smoked. I don't know enough about cigars but it's good, it's mild, and it's not super expensive. One of my buddies that works with me always buys some sort of Caribbean rum cigar that are super cheap but they're really nice smokes, and typically when we would get back to whatever Airbnb house we were saying at and doing jobs in an area we always sit and have whiskey and smoke those in the evenings. I think they're called Caribbean Jack or something. I think last time I bought them they were only like a couple of bucks a piece, so for an everyday cigar they really fit the bill.
I need to go out and buy them pipe and get some good pipe tobacco. I think I probably prefer smoking a pipe over cigars. Used to be a cigar and tobacco shop in college station when I was in school that had a really awesome blend I think called outdoorsman, I don't know how many damn bags of that stuff I had smoked, but it was delicious.
Whiskey I'm just kind of all over the place. I used to really like scotch but I haven't gotten a bottle of that in a while, but I found a brand the other day that made a hefeweizen whiskey. I guess it's been infused with clove and lemon peel, and it has a really unique taste. Kind of reminds me of a vodka brand called Bison Grass, that has a very herbaceous taste because they put the piece of some sort of grass in it and it's delicious.
If I had to pick one whiskey though Clyde Mays Alabama whiskeys probably my favorite, especially if you can find their small batch deals at Total wine. They had like a 12 or 15 year that I was able to get a couple of bottles of a few years ago but like my wife wasn't ever whiskey drinker, and she loves the stuff. And the different batches did have way different taste from lot to lot.

I have a few cigars I like. AJ Fernandez Bellas Artes Maduro Robusto, is one. Bellas Artes Natural Robusto Extra is another and the 3rd is Master Blend III Robusto. The first two are rich, spicy and creamy is probably the best way I can describe them. The 3rd one...think snickerdoodle.
My go-to whiskey has always been Bulliett. I have the 25 year close by.

I think the first two sound really good and I'm not going to lie I will probably enjoy the third, I just don't smoke on my cigars enough and like I can sit and figure out what the different flavors of stuff like whiskeys but when it comes to cigars, but I'm just not just not used to the different flavors and my palate is in there.
It's different with food or booze, I just never really got into the hardcore cigar world, NFL buddy of mine brought something over I was like I'm going to smoke it I don't really give a shit what it is, but I do know it's pretty complex and there's some really good cigar makers out there. It's just another hobby, much like my fly rods. Summer smoother casting than others, but some are fucking powerhouses to pitch at 100 ft of wine in the single cast.

think I still have the deluxe album and there's like a 3 the-hour second disc and it's all about Schaefer talking about his idea or concept for making a whole goddamn heavy metal album about classic movie monsters. Iced Earth is like the Rush of nerdy heavy metal.
I don't know why the hell I'm still up but I'm packing boxes and looking up my cocmic books, but Horror Show was the first albuum never got that was an oyster original, and I remember I shared it with a couple of y buddies back in college and they're like what the hell. One of my best friends that I've been for 30 years made his sons into ice Earth and this was the album and he loves it and that's the good stuff.
Such a great band.
Edit: I don't know if I got banned from being able to post any sort of media but I can't post the playlist for Horror show, for the full album. The ability to link a fucking link a video is not available. But I've never experienced it with the form before.,
It's probably their best album because they sing about the mummy, the creature from the Black lagoon, Dracula, The wolfman, Frankenstein, and even Jack the ripper which, isn't necessarily a movie monster, but it's a pretty greatsonf, and the doctor Dracula and Mr Hyde song is f****** awesome.
