The Armand Assanti version from the 90s is a pretty faithful retelling. It's Xena/Hercules level of special effects, but not campy or silly. Free if you have prime. No surprise blacks or trannies.

The high seas already has a good version even tho it says cam it’s truly DVD quality and sound

I enjoyed the movie overall.... 8.5/10 probably. I loved the practical effects but I felt this could have been multiple movies. Maybe that's just an expectation for me with movies of this scale but I think I would have enjoyed a 2 or 3 part movie rather than the one 3-hour release. I felt the first and last 45 minutes was extremely well done and then the middle felt very choppy with some pieces rushed and/or disjointed. Again, overall well done... I'm glad they released an epic but I've read there is a 5 hour director's cut and hope they release that or an extended edition at some point.

the original poems also had someone (a god i think) telling odysseus he would have to choose between two monsters opposite each other, one would kill six of his men and the other would kill them all

You know how you deal with shit you don't like? You dont go see it, you don't go engage with it, and you don't give it your time of day. It fucking Nolan. With A list actors who for the most part did a pretty good job. A movie where it was filmed not on shit green screen, but outside, with animatronics, forced perspectives, great pacing, great effects, and guess what? Its actually entertaining and doesn't feel 3 hours long. Will it be the best movie I see this year? Fuck no. Will it win all the awards? Yep and i feel bad for DV and Dune about it. But it doesn't need to be a grand fucking conspiracy that the director who releases a fucking film in the theater in Sep 2020 during the first COVID fall grossed over $350 million and who the fuck goes to a theater then, made a big loud, entertaining movie that people want to see. People will go see his movies. Period.
