they extended the odyssey 70mm imax run today, amc's system crashed out over the overload and tons of seats have sold out already for the 70mm imax screenings. FOMO is high with this movie, its entered that barbie sphere of people who follow trends have to say they saw it in 70mm imax. Its wild and a pretty neat phenomenon, nolan may be up there with James Cameron now on a "never bet against the guy". be fascinating to see what he does next, I think he said he's gonna take a 3 year break though before starting his next project.

It's wild to think Netflix gave the Russotards $320 million to make the absolutely embarrassing Electric State. Nothing practical. Just pure trash for $70 million more than the Odyessy production.

Nolan chose actors who -mostly- put asses in seats, along with his own name. So no, I'm not entirely surprised the movie made money or headlines. But none of that makes the criticisms wrong: the script was adapted based on the writings of a cunt who hates the source material, characters were added or altered to fulfill Hollywood obligations, the dialogue is NOT the poetry of the original but a street-slang, simpleton re-shaping that can't even be called "parody" without further insulting the original text.

This has zero to do with being a Conservative, or a Trump supporter; it's just a fact. And yes, we keep bitching about it because if only one side is engaging by causing the other to remain silent, then that side wins outright. So fuck'em... I'm going to keep voicing the truth about what an insult this kind of bullshit really is. Our heritage, and our culture, did NOT come from the likes of Somalia, or anywhere in backwards-ass Africa, it came from the great minds of our European ancestors. And they need to keep hearing that we haven't forgotten.

it would be interesting to see a good historic movie or multi season HBO show about the "dark ages" after the fall of the full Western Roman Empire (500-1000AD) when mathematics, infrastructure, philosophy, and other sciences regressed in the West while Islamic caliphates experienced their own flourishing golden age in Baghdad and Egypt. Both empires collapsed completely due to the invasion by the Mongol hordes around 1200 AD. I think a lot of shit was going down in China and the Mughal (Indian) empires too at the time.

It would make for crazy good TV but also piss off pretty much everyone as it shows the West falling due to religious strangeholds, Islam flourishing with more tolerant practices, and then both becoming lazy and succumbing to the more vibrant Mongols. I always wonder who the modern day Mongols are who will take down the self destructive Western empires.

It would be hilarious if Nolan took on Genghis Khan next and cast Ryan Gosling as Genghis Khan, Emma Stone as his wife, Tom Holland as Kublai, etc.

Looked today to see if a 70mm IMAX ticket was available. The theatre near me only plays Thur-Sun but they are sold out for at least all of August.

1. Struggling to find anything that points to Nolan using Emily Wilson's translation as his one source. I'm pretty sure he used many. Can we point to what exactly is Wilson influenced in this adaptation?
2. Characters added? Are you talking about the larger Greek cycle being used? What's the bonus characters we need or don't need?
3. Agreed the modern dialog is cringe sometimes. 100%.

Half of the movie is the dumb shit in Ithaca. Just nonsense like kicking Odysseus dog or beating up the blind old slave for reasons. It's really ham fisted. I was surprised they made one of the bad guys a darkie. Super boring and 100 percent retarded.

Even the Odysseus parts are pretty dumb for the most part. Watching his endless supply of sailors just getting munched on and running away scene after scene. Hardly any real action in the film at all. The batman armor is really jarring and stupid. The viking longship instead of a Greek trireme is pretty fucking dumb too.

It isn't just the tranny and sub saharans that ruin the setting. The horse looks stupid too.
