Pretty sure it’s free, just requires you to have purchased the box
That's what I figured I just haven't clicked on that one link to try to download it yet. Was maybe going to try to get into my account this weekend. Think I was still in Transylvania. Never did any of the Japan content, plus a handful of the different adventure expansions that they had like the Indiana Jones train deal in Egypt. I'm assuming those are probably all there.

I just wouldn't mind jumping back because you can redo quests and I think I almost had a complete skill wheel, but when I tried Legends I don't have anything unlocked and I just said fuck you. Only thing I had was all of the clothing I had used my points from for subscribing, none of my damn weapon skins.

OMG I loved this game, even with all the FunCom™ bugginess. One of the few games I played all the way through and made it halfway through a second faction character. I will download this and see to what I have access. I THINK I got a lifetime sub as well. Someone is making a TTRPG version for which I just backed with all the stuff.

Yeah I would doubt there's any support for it. I wonder if there are still people even playing on it? I'm able to log into my Legends account, and I'm pretty sure my password is the same, but I guess I'll find out at some point.

I have a bunch of archived emails, looking for where I potentially reset this password; looked through various traunches, got back to where I was in the beta in 2011, where I was recommending the game to friends, where I bought the box from Amazon, various comic book-esque "issues" from Funcom which are the TSL newsletters, and don't see a password that works for classic. I still have a number of files to look through, 2013-2015, to see if I have any clue as to what this password might be. I really want to play Classic rather than Legends but I can surely gain access to Legends.

Edit: Downloading Legends now, shows me as a Lifetime Patron.

Yeah, our little group played beta and bought the game. Think I got my copy from Best Buy. Probably in a box somewhere in my garage.

You should have a key tied to your account, which is what matters. I think I was lucky enough to remember my password so no recovery needed.

Every year I'll still load it up and make a new character and play through the Kingsmouth content, shit was great.

I always enjoyed tanking in the dungeons. Barely any trash mobs and just fun boss fights. Never did the raid against the giant Cthulhu monster in NY.

I got into Legends, My guy Shotgun/Hammer guy was in the Desert; I can't remember before or after the big fight at the hotel. I would assume before, since I am still with the rebels. That train mission in Egypt still stands out to me as AMAZING. All of Kingsmouth is fantastic, especially the amusement park. What an amazing game this was, to still be able to recall (or seem to recall) missions from an almost 15 year old game, what an impression it left. Last time I logged in was 2017. Will leave in on the PC and potentially start a new character just to see how far the occasional interest will carry me.

Was Legends any good? I just hated the revamp of the skill wheel and combat, and never played it.

I liked the original skill wheel a lot more than legends. You could tell they were trying to adopt modern mmo monitazation techniques from other games with the way they designed the new gear enhancement system. Overall I didn't mind legends, the game played a little more fluid from a combat perspective.

The skill wheel was definitely my favorite aspect of the original game. It was just so unique and refreshing that you could learn everything and then mix and match at your leisure. I know I've said it before but PVP was a big thing with our little group, and we would sit for hours in the sparring room dueling each other and testing builds. It was also nice that you can immediately just click a button and it would swap all of your skills out. I was ran sword and chaos, had my tanking build, a couple of PVP builds, and I think a DPS build for questing.

The game was just so damn different than anything I had played prior MMO-wise, other than maybe City of Heroes or Fallen Earth. It was just nice to get away from fantasy, and I still think it's one of the best skill systems to this day. I don't even know if anybody's done anything quite like it again. I think this was the last game Ragnar Tornquist worked on for the company before he bailed, but if I recall, this was the game that was supposed to be his magnum opus.

Fun fact, he was trying to copy saints row 2 systems.

i guess I've just played so many MMOs and they are all so iterative off of one another that they all blend in together but anytime anyone mentions some system that's like "omg revolutionary" i'm all like "wtf are you talking about, like 75 fucking MMOs do that" but in reality they are all so forgettable i can't actually name them, they all blend together.

like classless, pick and choose skill based games isn't new at all, earliest I can think of is Eve Online but there were others, Asheron's Call 2 sorta had that as well...maybe Anarchy Online? I dont remember. The other day the boomers were going on and on about how revolutionary it would be if someone dared to dream to add summoned bosses in addition to normal, open world contested bosses?!? Trying to think of which game added it first, thinking maybe 2006 but I can't name it, surely Black Desert from 12 years ago wasnt the first to do that? But yeah its clear that like, some people literally only ever played everquest and only read about world of Warcraft (itself just an iteration on EQ) and they think that everything else is just a direct carbon copy of WoW and no innovation has ever occurred in the genre.

I guess UO was the first classless MMO that I can think of, you had 700 skill points to allocate. I don't know if they ever changed it over the years but that's how it was when I played. I guess the EQ was the first MMO that really had classes other than the old Neverwinter nights on the AOL game. Then DAOC had a multitude of classes.

I guess you're right though that Eve was the first game where you could learn every skill. I always forget about it just because it's just such a different game.

COH was a bit more free form with being able to pick different power sets based on whatever class.

Fallen Earth was more of a UO style system.

TSW was honestly the first regular MMO where you were running around with your character, and not piloting different spaceships where you could flip between whatever skills you wanted, and definitely more of a traditional MMO layout with quests, dungeons and shit.

I'm sure there are single player games and maybe some survival sort of crap that might do that, but it's not like a whole ton of MMOs come out anymore other than gaysian shit or ARPGs.

I think that's why we played it for so long and enjoyed it so much is because TSW was pretty unique with the skill wheel. Hey if you didn't like whatever type of weapon and abilities, no biggie start leveling up something else. Probably the closest successor to that type of system sounds like New World. I've not ever played it, but I'm tempted to fire it up for the first time, especially hearing about some of the guys talking about the new expansion.

Honestly wonder if I have a free copy of it via Amazon prime or something, or at least a big discount?

New World has a lot of problems but the skill system and combat, at least previously, were really a lot of fun. They needed to do Eve economics in New World to make the game work: EQ economics was never going to last when you are constantly crafting new items and currency into an economy and never/hardly ever removing them. EQ worked because there was time gated artificial scarcity. New World has a bunch of craftsmen it creates to feed an economy on the road to a race to the top, with a few winners and a glut/bust of items at the bottom.

Or Guild Wars 2 or Elder Scrolls Online or Neverwinter or....you see where i'm going with this.

Someone changes something a little bit then everyone else takes that and puts their spin on it and incorporates it into their game. Every great "new" idea is just borrowed/reskinned from somewhere else. I remember when ESO came out was playing the beta and I thought they had this super cool thing, what became known as "phasing" which was itself just an iteration of adaptive, contextual layering (which I first saw in LOTRO but probably was around earlier....layering which itself came from instancing, which came as a form of less permanent server sharding to handle population density), Anyway I thought phasing was the coolest new thing ever until someone pointed out that it wasn't a new thing at all, WoW had accidently invented it a few years earlier.
