Just now saw the trailer to this for the first time on TV today, tickle me interested, could be one of the better modern westerns in awhile.

Edit: The TV spot trailer I saw was different than the one linked in OP, and did not have the Tainted Love song... it was way better without the song. It also seemed to highlight the humor less, though that had no real impact on my opinion, just that stupid song.

We caught this last night since it was hard to get a good seat for Halloween (everyone reserves seats in these theaters now). It actually was pretty decent. The ending kind of fell apart but overall it's a decent western with some comedy thrown in (although not too much). Joaquin Phoenix is the right amount of crazy.

saw this today, it was kinda meh. Story was pretty basic and never really went anywhere, and while the cast was great it did feel a little too "Hollywood" in how you kept getting pulled out and thinking these were hollywood guys playing pretend cowboy. Just a whole lot of speechifying that felt a bit unnatural. Its NOT a comedy, 100% a drama. Some weird modern twists that also felt a bit weird, like Riz Ahmed plays a regular old guy in this world and people refer to him as "the dark skinned guy" but I dunno, were there middle eastern dudes hanging around the old west in the 1850s? I think there's supposed to be a tranny boss or something too but that was just bizarre and I'm not sure if it was a guy or lady.

I'd say go watch Hostiles instead if you are hankering for some western action, much more somber and reflective movie. This is worth a watch at home while you do something else, probably not worth a trip out to theaters though. I am totally ready for Red Dead Redemption 2 tho

Probably a non-0 amount, but I don't believe Muslims and Sikhs started arriving in any significant in the American West until the early 1900s (around the same time as the Chinese). Arab Muslims started coming to Mexico in like the 1860s I believe, and again in larger numbers in the 1890s/1900s. I know this fun fact because Cemitas and Tacos Arabes are my favorite Mexican food and its from Puebla and is an interesting fusion of Arab and Central American flavors and cooking methods.

Angerz Angerz Since I associate chinese in the USA with building the railroads which is a mid 19th century thing, I went and checked wikipedia. So, for reference, the first wave of chinese immigration was between 1852 and 1882 (there are a few hundreds before and more than 300,000 after). Then between 1882 and 1943 it was made illegal for chinese people to come to the USA. While smaller in scale, there was a significant immigration of yemenis (and turks, but probably mostly turks) between 1840 and the first world war. Sikhs arrived in significant numbers near the end of the 19th century because of economic problems in british ruled Punjab.

I also caught this over the weekend, and while I was pretty meh about the whole thing (some good, some bad, a lot of things not really going anywhere) everyone I went with actively disliked it. I guess the more I think about it, the more I lean towards advising people not to see it.

Out on the usual places.

Certainly an odd movie, but a good one. Some of the best sound design/photography work I've seen in a movie for a while. The first scene is spectacular.
