Let me get this straight:

Making a mistake, having the mistake pointed out and immediately acknowledging and taking responsibility for said mistake, is somehow WORSE than outright lying, having the lie pointed out repeatedly (with proof), continuing the lie for MONTHS AND MONTHS and eventually just pretending none of that happened while continuing to spread lies?

You asked, I'll answer:

Poe's Law came about as a commentary on how some views are so extreme that satire of those views can be indistinguishable from the "real thing" unless there is blatant humor tipping off the reader. I'm pretty sure everyone agrees on this.

However, what I noticed is that people often summon "Poe's Law" in cases where the satire is obvious, where the humor IS blatant and where you'd have to be pretty ignorant to not see it as such. Honestly, I think this is just over-eagerness on their part to portray SJWs as even more ridiculous than they actually are. Regardless, I figured since, in those situations, the misunderstanding is NOT due to the extremism of the views being mocked but rather by the lack of critical thinking skills of those unable to recognize obvious satire, that these should not count as cases of Poe's Law at work (since, after all, Poe's Law is SUPPOSED to be about extremism and not ignorance). However, Hodj correctly pointed out that the definitions of Poe's Law do not make exceptions for ignorance on the part of those who are confused, that all they say is that if SOMEONE mistakes satire for the real thing, it's Poe's Law (even if he's a brain dead moron who couldn't tell a Garfield comic from a peer-reviewed scientific study). Apparently, no matter how blatant the humor is, no matter how clear the author's intentions are, if someone doesn't see it then it's Poe's Law.

So, like I said, I was wrong. Poe's Law apparently includes cases where extremism is legitimately indistinguishable from satire, as well as cases where people are simply too stupid to recognize obvious satire as obvious satire. I do believe this distinction is important, as the former is indicative of how extreme some views are and the latter is indicative of how ignorant some people (usually anti-SJWs) are, but I'm OK with lumping all of that together if it makes Rerolled happy. So yeah, when Rerolled passes around an obvious joke article while chanting "Poe's Law! Poe's Law!", they may think they are highlighting how extreme SJWs are, but they're actually highlighting their own lack of critical thinking ability.

It also brought me to a realization.

I was introduced to this community through happenstance. Mire showed me the FSR section of FOH (which he had been exposed to because he played Everquest), and I was hooked. I had no idea what went on in the discussion board, but I was drawn to the haphazard yet consistent influx of pleasures that FSR gave me. When FOH went tits-up I actually missed my opportunity to get in on MoreNetz, but when Mire told me that Rerolled was the new FOH and that you could become a member for free, it was a no-brainer.

Anyway, if this had happened on a more SJW-leaning message board, I would totally be attacking the shit out of SJWs right now, using exactly the same arguments and points of view I'm using here. I would be exactly the same person, pissing off my peers in exactly the same way.

On the one hand, it implies I'm an unlikable asshole who will always just make enemies no matter who I'm exposed to (in online message boards, at least).
On the other hand, it suggests I am a slave to no ideology and am simply adept at pointing out the worst in other people (for what that's worth).
It's not even an either/or. It's both those things. I'm very torn. Maybe I need to stop arguing with people. Maybe I need to go back to focusing my attention exclusively to the FSR thread. Maybe I need to practice what I preach and simply not let shit get to me.
