Bandwagon links an insightful and well-written article that draws attention to the victim mentality of people who complain about games they don't like getting good reviews. It's relevant and a perfect discussion starter for the Gamergate thread. However, because the article isn't an attack piece against an infamous villain figure, the only acknowledgment it gets is outright dismissal by Lightning Lord Rule. No counter-points given, no explanation as to what the article gets wrong, just a "nuh-uh".
Which is fine. Nobody's required to discuss or even acknowledge something that doesn't necessarily interest them. But as I read the article, I noticed that it addressed many of the themes and arguments that have made many appearances in the GG thread. The weak sauce "X isn't really a video game" arguments, the "they only like it 'cause QUEERS" arguments, the "gamers are under attack" arguments, the "critics are tricking people into buying bad games" arguments... Basically, a lot of the hollow rhetoric that's extremely popular on this board was countered using logic and reason.
So I quoted Bandwagon and recommended the article. Did it lead to a civil discussion about gamer culture and the role games journalism plays in it? Nope. Did it lead to well thought-out rebuttals to the article, pointing out things the author got wrong? Nope. Did it lead to me just being ignored because nobody cared about the article and there was no interest in discussing it? Nope. Instead we got:

As we have gone over before, it isn't my "lack of perspective". I spent a good portion of those 2 years defending you on many topics. We have had people like Chaos, Erronius and others try and come into the conversation late and discuss things with you. Almost universally these people threw up their hands after you just refused to be able to hold an intelligent conversation on the subject without resorting to attacks.
So yeah, now people react badly to you. You only have yourself to blame really. You had a new shot at this forum and you threw it all away. The whole "omg a_skeleton_03 banned me and now is trying to dox me with my tracert" was the perfect icing on the cake of your stupidity.

Bullshit. Those guys parachuted in already firmly clinging to their pre-conceived conclusions. They assumed I didn't know what I was talking about and, instead of actually discussing in good faith, were only interested in trying to convince me I was wrong. They ignored the information that didn't fit their pre-decided narratives and got frustrated when I wouldn't kowtow to them.
I did not ignore anything they had to say. I acknowledged their points and countered them. I was always civil and respectful until I was attacked first.
