Came out on netflix today. The screenplay is based on a nonfiction book about the decisions behind Benedict's resignation and the history between the two popes.

The book was great and the movie was written by the same author, but it does a great job packing the biographical notes that inform Francis' theology and politics.

Anthony Hopkins is astonishing as usual and Jonathan Pryce becomes Francis, his spanish even has an Argentine accent.

Is there a scene where Bernie Sanders is briefly squeezed into Pope Francis's schedule so that he can kiss the ring?

No but there's a scene of South American Socialists being thrown out of aircraft for real.

I finally got around to watch this. Can a movie be boring and interesting at the same time? A+ acting was going to be a given which helps a ton. Some subtle humor which had me laughing. In the end it felt like a propaganda movie for the current pope.

Gonna bump this up because I think it's worth a watch, not only is it fantastically acted, it's also well paced and cinematically beautiful. Obviously it's talk heavy and not something teenagers are going to enjoy but for adult viewing it's worth checking out. I wasn't just entertained, I came out feeling like I learned something too. Don't need to be religious to enjoy.
