A lot of people misinterpret what "turn the other cheek" means. It's not an act of submission or being passive. It's actually an interruption of power.
Mathew 5:39: "If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also."
Back then being slapped by the back of the hand was seen as disrespectful and an insult, the person being slapped viewed as "less than". But...if you turn the other cheek this causes the aggressor to do one of two things. Forces them to slap the person open handed (a sign of equality) or it stops the aggressor, disrupting the power dynamic.
It's basically a non-verbal way of saying "you're not better me".
