I sure as shit wouldn't be a hero as a officer today.
Lets say you get a good shoot and kill a black dude seconds before he's about to kill a family of jewish immigrants from Ukraine, you have about 2 days of 0 news coverage before BLM gets you, then you have another few days before the Jewish community gets you. There is no winning, even if you suspect some strange shit is going down, your better bet is to basically do what the "Security Guard" / First responder to the Florida school shooting did, sit in your car and wait for back-up.
Lets say you DO go in and get involved with "The Strange" in a circumstance, your chance of getting crucified by your city / the media / the locals isn't ever going to be 0.
Police officers know this now, shit after Saint Floyd died every officer and every citizen knows that your chance of being saved by an officer VS that officer arriving late to do "Clean Up" is basically a coin toss.

But, the majority of them are not and this current culture of racial, economic, and political hate - fueled in large part by the media - has made it a thankless and dangerous job.
