Firearm safety is the first and most important thing for hunters, and anyone handling guns, to learn. We never pass loaded firearms, always double check before bagging them up at the end of day.

One of my dad’s friends handed him a loaded shotgun out of a duck boat years ago. He went nuclear on the dude and we’ve never hunted with or even seen the guy since.

Two days in the duck blind this weekend. Saw a ton of birds Sunday but didn’t kill anything. Rusty I guess, fired on two different groups and didn’t knock anything down.

1. Treat every firearm as if it is loaded

2. Never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy

3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target and you have made the decision to shoot

4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it


Usually if there's an incident or Darwin award when guns are involved is because one or more of these rules were violated.
